Icon2 single turbo questions

i need some help regarding in doing sohc turbo. currently in my 96 ek hatch i have a d16y7 with a dx tranny. a friend of mine is giving me a 2000 d16y8. and i want to know which block would be best for turbo because i have been hearing the y8 blocks are notorious for spinning bearings. the y8 im getting from my friend has a spun bearing. any type of info would be greatly appreciated.

This is why we have a Forced Induction FAQ. There is a wealth of information there if you're willing to look...

As for spinning bearings, it all comes down to proper tolerances, keeping oil plentiful, and keeping dirt and metal shavings out of the oiling system. All engines are effectively the same; ergo, you should not be any more prone to spinning a bearing on your Y7 than your Y8...especially since they're nearly identical bottom ends

And in all seriousness, did he mention OIL OIL OIL? Lol if you don't want to spin bearings - make sure you have ample amount of oil in the system and check for leaks often. I know first hand from experience that leaks spring up much more quickly in a turbo system as you add oil feed and return lines, tap pans, etc. Check every time you change your oil for even possible drips - drips turn into bigger drips, which eventually turn into oil dumps.

thats true the y8 im getting from my friend didnt have much oil when he spun the bearing. as how i'am understanding i just might as well throw the y8 head on my y7 since both bottom ends are identical also use the y8 manifold. well im from california and the emissions are strict so i had planned swapping the y8 in my ek bar it and the turbo im going to use is a greddy CARB legal turbo so everything will be legit but budget wise for now throw the y8 head on my y7 also turbo.
