Simple Fuel management question

Simple Fuel management question
For a d16y5 w/ a 14b or t25 @ 6-7 boost - What's the best (inexpensive) option? Stick w/ the stock HX injectors and run a FMU? Larger injectors? Is an upgraded fuel pump necessary for that level of boost?

Re: Simple Fuel management question (spl_nut)
Rc Engineering 310 Injectors, 8:1 fmu, warbor fuel pump 255lph and missing link(is applicable) would be good for about 9-11 psi of boost

8:1 and 310's sound ok, but you do need an SAFC or some kind of fuel controller.
Heres my opinion from my experience:
A lot of people throw on a turbo and say "yea, Ill just run 7 pounds and Ill be happy" YOU WONT be happy. You will want more and more power once the turbo fever kicks in. People may even up the boost a little thinking it wont hurt. Then something bad happens, like how I blew my headgasket, people led me to believe it was a cracked sleeve, and I am now getting a fully blown monster.
I think you should invest a little more money and get 440cc injectors, walbro intank fuel pump and a hondata s200. Get a little bit of dyno tuning and you will be set. Its a more expensive way, but think about how expensive it will be to rebuild broken engine parts, not to mention the down time of the car.
Sorry if I sound like a mommy lecturing, but just dont want to see people blow **** up.
Anyway, good luck with your setup.

Re: Simple Fuel management question (intekragsr)
I appreciate your input and respect you opinion - but are your suggestions really necessary if I never boost over 7psi? A simple regulator off the FMU won't suffice?
Thanks man...

Re: Simple Fuel management question (spl_nut)
I boosted 7 psi on an fmu for a year.......now I am rebuilding the motor due to band aid fuel management.......
Just make sure your motor is running well first, do compression test or leakdown test. Of course its not completly necessary.
Is this a daily driver? What type of driver are you? Do you plan on racing? Basically, my fmu setup lasted exactly 12 months, and I redlined it almost everyday. That could have contributed to my situation, but there are many others who blame the FMU for their blown motors.
Get the fmu setup for a while, see how you like it. FMU tuning compared to standalone tuning is like night and day. People say its like having a honda turboed from the factory.

Re: Simple Fuel management question (spl_nut)
you can never over tune a car.
But if you keep it at 7psi or lower you should be fine with the 310cc injectors, 8:1 fmu, high pressure fuel pump. It's a wise idea to get a fuel computer (v-afc,sfc, s-afc,etc) to fine tune the fuel curve. You should also invest in a btm to retard your timing under boost.
honestly you say 7psi is the most you'll boost, i guaratee that you'll be wanting to up the boost soon, you'll get used to the 7psi and want more. before you know it your upgrading your parts for parts that can support more power, trust us on this one. I started out with 5psi, moved to 7psi stayed there shortly, told myself that i'll just tune it for 9psi (daily driven) and leave it, well i'm currently at 9.5psi tuned well (air/fuel ratio is as good as it gets, ignition timing is good) and already thinking about upping it to 11psi. It's a never ending battle, once you feel the power you'll crave more.
luckly i have enough control to know that 9psi is my limit until i get my truck (searching for a new silverado).......
Ask my ex, my plans were to only lower the car and put rims on it...that was 5 years ago and several thouand $$$$ ago.....

Daily driver... 80% of the time it'll be driven 'normally'. No racing.
Hondata would really destroy this project's theme of 'dirt cheap'. - I know, you get what you pay for...
Wonder why Hondata is listing the HX as a D15B?

for the money your going to spend on a fuel pump, fmu, missing link, 310cc's, and a BTM you could have a Uberchip (Uberchip = hondata more or less) and 450cc DSM injectors.
Why use 1970's technology, when you can use 2003 technology for a comparable price.

yep, or you can buy some used rc's online.
Thats your best bet
look in the classifieds for a used sfc, v-afc or s-afc

ditch the fmu hook up the v-afc get some 440cc injectors, intank fuel pump, and a btm for timing, get it to a dyno and have at it

Re: Simple Fuel management question (b16ahybrid)
Guess I read Mr Davis' post just in time... Uberteg's solution looks like an option.
Uberteg - how about for the P2N?
450s down 40%?

I just got this... damn, I'm quick.
So, the s-afc on ebay for $225 isn't looking so good

Are you the guy who keeps instant messaging me on aim? Just because i'm logged on aim, doesnt mean i'm on the comp. SHoot me an email or call my cell
spl: p2n sounds liek an obd2 ecu, and i only do obd1.

Re: Simple Fuel management question (UberTeg)
Yeah... I just picked that up
Guess I'll just use the safc w/ 450s...
Anyone want to comment on what's needed to use the DSM injectors on a HX?
