That said, you should have noticed it was some sort of oil, then crossreferenced TURBO+OIL+LEAK in a search. There should be the smallest amount of oil on that backplate, not gobs & streaks of it like pictured. I would venture a guess you bought that from someone that: 1) will have claimed to not be able to test the turbo, 2) selling the "AS IS", 3) has very few auctions up or feedback received. Cliff notes: the turbo's seals are most likely shot.
