short block question
Alright, I had a cracked ringland on the last turbo project. I am gonna go at it again but I am having a hard time finding a shop that sells short blocks only. Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't have the money to build my current bottom end because of wife and kids and paying for my wifes college. I just need a stock B16 short block and I am a bit weary from buying from classifieds and the "pulled out of running car". I rather just buy from a company that guarentee's the engine will start and i will have alot less on my mind.
any help is appreciated/

Re: short block question (quik sol)
Most of the shortblocks i have bought have been from the average run of the mill garage side sale.
Never had a problem except for bad sensors, and overwhelming amount of grinding gears when purchasing transmissions(which doesnt concern you).
But if your only problem was a ringland then you could pull everything else neccesary off the last motor... save your self some money and time by getting it localy. Check google for local forums about racing/imports/hondas.
here in FL we have. tamparacing.com. Decent spot to pick up used parts.

Re: short block question (quik sol)
Seriously, if you already have a block with good sleeves, I'd hold off and use that. Hone the sleeves--$under 100
Pistons--------------$500
Eagle Rods---------$300\
ACL bearings------$100
That's $1000. I know a b16 short block is only about $300, but. . . There is never a gurantee that the ringlands won't go on you again. And that's just more waisted money.
And just because a shop says that a motor is in good condition, doesn't mean anything. I doubt they were the ones doing the oil changes every 3kmiles, and driving with the motor at low rpm's. . .

Seems like anymore, there are always deals to be had on b16 shortblocks. I have had one i am trying to sell for like 4 months. I am down to selling it for 125.00 and still no takers. And it is complete. I guess it depends on where you live?
