Default Setting timing on a new motor, any tips?

Well guys, all that's really left to do on my new motor is timing. I'm using EF1 L28 cams and Skunk 2 cam gears. What worries me the most is setting the cam gears. Should I keep them at zero, and adjust timing that way? Do I have to adjust when the intake valve opens, and when the exhaust valve closes? How tight should the timing belt be? Any help/tips would really be appreciated. I've done timing before, but never with adjustable cam gears, and never on a motor that I don't know anything (yet) about.
