Default SC61 vs GT35E vs SC60

OK I've posted a lil on this before but things have changed a lil since then. Right now I have a Precision SC60 (60-1 hifi compressor, .63 a/r turbine w/ stage 3 wheel). it's going on my d16...

77mm bore (~1.7L), ~9.5:1 compression (9:1 je's in z6 block with a y8 head) p&p head with crower springs and retainers, and a zex street n strip cam.

The orignial plan was to keep the head stock. I was considering the SC61 before but because it's only available with a Stage 5 turbine wheel I decided to take the step below and go with the SC60. Now that the head is built I'm considering the change again. Just so you know, I'm aiming for #'s as well as times. I wanna try to make over 400whp. I want to be somewhere in the 12's full interior or faster but 12's will do for now. I'm also considering the GT35E. What do you guys think? Turbodcx I know has used the Cheapturbo.com version of the SC61 and it made good power on his setup.

UPDATE... I grew some ***** and got the SC61

Yea thats something you'll need to work with once you get the car running... traction.

Im sure your setup will do fine- your car is/was running nice and strong. Once the head is done it should feel even smoother.
And you might want to get a new tranny, no?

So... like I said, let me drive it and Ill run 12's

Keep the SC60.

The SC61 bandwagon is great...but not for everyone.

That turbo you have can do 500whp easy.

yah i understand that... that's why i'm checking out my options. another factor a friend of mine reminded me of was spool time and the limitations of the turbine wheel. Like I mentioned... the sc60 has a stage 3 wheel, the sc61 comes in a stage 5 wheel and i'm under the impression that the GT35E has a GT turbine wheel which I don't know too much about. I'm definitely not thinking about total peak power either. I would want a DECENT usable power band... but mainly I'm looking for 1/4 mile times/traps and power goals.

The GT turbine wheel is comparable from what I understand to the stage 5 wheel.

It flows like a T4 wheel, but can fit in the smaller T3 housing.

I've seen 540whp on the Stage3 wheel...so it won't limit you by any means.

ah ok i see. well like i said i have my turbo sitting here... i just want to make use of the motor's capabilities efficiently. I want to make as much power as I can while still maintaining a decent powerband, etc. I was talking to brian (turbodcx) and he had the stage 5 wheel on his old turbo and he seemed to like it. I have to look into it more

The SC61 can come with a 69 trim or 76 trim turbine wheel and if I remember correctly so can the SC60. Keep the SC60

bump for soem more questions:

I was now looking at the GT30R... it's a lil more $$$ but from what I've been told the bb helps build a lot more mid range power. it's rated @ 500hp on precision's site and the sc60 i have is rated @ 580 though. any one got insight?

BB is very nice and I almost went with it, but the headache of the water cooling I didn't want to mess with.

quit closet racing! both the SC60 and the SC61 are gonna take some work to reach there full potential. Use what you got, decide if you wanna keep it after you break 400whp .... now go put it together and come race me!
