S-AFC and 3 bar map sensor.....
What should the settings be for the sensor type? In and out. It was at 6 in 6 out. How am i supposed to know what setting to use for the 3bar MAP? doesn't even idle right at 6 with the 3 bar map.
anyone????

that is about as close as you are going to get it.
goto etc/sensor check
make sure you map volage is reading ~1.6 volts, shoudl have been ~2.8 or so with the stock map.
why are you running a 3 bar map. do you have standalone. ???

No standalone. This was the way i was told to do it. it's the stock ecu and the s-afc. It's not my car or i would do it with the stand alone.
Buddies car, just trying to find out some info for him. And actually i'm not sure why he is wanting to run 15psi. But he is doing the car over this winter so i guess it doen't matter if it blows now.
You ask why he is runnign a 3bar? what other way is there to do it with the s-afc and stock ecu? not using fish tank parts.

Yeah, it's called using the AFC and 450cc injectors...good to about 12-14 psi. Nowadays it's the oldest trick in the book. No fish tank parts required.
afc hack is good for ~10.65 psi. the limit of the stock map sensor. if you want to run a 3 bar with the setup. sure your good for more.
but dont be suprised if you engine has a hole in it.

yea i know, thats why I was wondering why he wanted to run 15psi. Thats ok if he gets a hole in the engine, i'll sell him one of mine.
Thanks for the settings, i'm going to try them today and then let him blow it up friday at the track.

i was running around 13-13.5 psi with the hack and 3bar map...although i have to tell you that you'll be running SUPER RICH at idle. the afc can only subtract so much fuel...
So whats the reason that you think were gonna have a hole in the engine? too much psi? I know tuning has a lot to do with it, what does the B18b engine hold boostwise? he's been running about 12-13 for a while but keeps messing the car up, then un hook battery and it fixes it. so i told him today and he said it runs fine, the settings worked. and since he can run 12 psi all the time without messing up the electronics of the car, we are sticking to 12psi.
Really anything over 10 psi on a stock b18b is asking for trouble. Some get away with it, some don't. Using the AFC hack you're going to have super advanced timing from what you should have, which is what makes it so dangerous the more boost you run.
And BTW, I made a few runs at 15 psi with the hack on accident (turned up the boost higher than I meant to with my mbc) on my SOHC and it ran fine.

look at your timing with the vafc hack at above 10psi.
do some research and you will see......
manipulating the map voltage cause the car to think it needs more timing. adding a 3 bar map only makes things worse.
alot of timing with boost = BAD....

I was also considering running a fairly high amount of boost for the hack.. however I'm using an OBD0 car and using ghettodyne to retard per psi of boost... (well based on 10 psi). what if I were to use a 3bar and trying running ~12-13 psi and just adjust the timing accordingly? TIA!

In what way does manipulating the map adds timing? U mean when the map voltage is decreased? And how does 3 bar map makes it worst? Pls elaborate.

I think that when you look at the stock ignition map it is most advanced at the high load / high rpm setting.. this is exactly where the afc hack will put you when you are boosting.

Hehe I have done 15+ too on my sohc with my flaky *** mbc. Turbo spools like I have never heard it before tires instantly rip loose even at decent speed, then look over see the boost gauge OH ****! Shut down and my RFL blows off about 4 times as loud. God I cant wait till I have internals!

Keeping this thread alive.. my question is with the 3bar and the afc hack.. if you boost say more than 10 psi doesn't it throw a code when the computer sees boost? Like when you have it rich enough to run that much boost? Anyone every successfully run more than 1bar of boost on the hack without throwing a code every time?
we ran the car tonight................my friend driving.....96 turbo ls............15.8
10psi. he can't drive tho.
hell my cx ran a 15.4 and i though that was bad.

you can make your car not see boost by lowering the fuel cut. say -50 %. it will let you run more boost upwards of 13 -14 psi, but again. timing is advanced even more
ok think of the car as n/a ( no turbo). the ecu adds timing as the car gets less vacume. on n/a cars this is great.
now on a turbo setup this is not so good. and since your tricking the ecu into thinking it's still in vacume with the hack.. it adds timing even though you really are in boost.

I know what it does to timing, in fact I mentioned that. Been there, done that. I was running the setup like two years ago my friend. Don't say you can't do it because of the MAP's limits, then change to saying it's about the massive timing advance
yes I understand the timing problem.. but I am going to use ghettodyne to run a new timing map that retards it under those conditions.. my question is.. if i'm running 13 psi of boost with the setup then won't the -50% be WAY to lean for that boost? I can't really upgrade the injectors easily becasue otherwise it won't idle.
im sure it might be to lean . but you can compensate with high fuel pressure
if you using ghettodyne, it could work, i have never messed with a timing retarding program such as this.
why dont you get a uberchip or something. that way you can have fuel maps and timing retarded during boost. you could sell you afc and pretty much pay for it. plus it would be alot more reliable
