Default Which route for an FI Integra Type R?

I have a 98 Type R with 30,000 miles on it. Im struggling between purchasing a Jackson Racing Supercharger or a Drag Gen. III Turbo kit. Everyone says a supercharger is safer, but why is this so? The main issue is reliability. I want to be able to drive my car for another 70,000 miles or so SAFELY. If a turbo is tuned right (injectors, haltech standalone ignition and fuel) is it possible to have a reliable car if I keep the boost under 7 psi? I know the type R compression is not good for turbo but there are quite a few type r's running 7 lbs. safely. But my question is, how long? The next issue is power. Obviously a turbo is going to make more power since the supercharger takes power to make power. How much boost is possible with a supercharger on a stock type R ecu and bottom end? Will it get me into the low 13's or even high 12's (w/ slicks)? Current mods are as follows: Apex N1 w/ 2 1/2 all the way from the header with no cat, JDM Type R header, Skunk2 cam gears, ACT six puck racing clutch. Sorry for the long post but this is a big decision. Thanks for the help...

i have had both - SC is fun but left me wanting more power. Turbo cars are just as safe as SC cars - it all comes down to tuning, if its tuned right you can get another 70,000 out of your car. The compression issue is just a myth - like i said if the turbo is tuned at .5bar it will work just fine with the R compression. If you wanna save money (since you already have a header, etc.) and are afraid of screwing with your emissions go with the SC - if you want sheer power go with the turbo - either way you will be happy - the real question is for how long...

Here is the result of some tuning we did on a 2000 SC Type R at a low 4.5 Lb boost on Thursday.

It has a very flat torque curve, which makes it very easy to drive.

Does anyone have a dyno sheet on a turbo ITR? Thanks Hondata for the info. How much boost is possible with a JR supercharger?

On a stock B18C5 I would boost max. 8psi. The charger itself can boost 10-12psi. Anything higher and the air will get too hot to see any power gains. You can port and polish the charger to produce less heat under the same boost-levels. There is always the possibility to install a water-injection too cool down the charged air. Anything higher than 16psi and the rotors of the JRSC get supersonic and can cause heavy damage to the blower and engine.

I ran .5bar and hit 226whp@9200 with my SC. At .5bar on a stock R with turbo I would guess around 275whp (with tuning)

BTW - go with hondata
