Default road race/auto x with boost?

who here attends road race/auto x events with a boosted FF honda? what are your inputs on driving like this with boost as far as performance, boost levels, non lsd vs lsd, cooling/overheating issues, wear and tear and also maintenance and longevity of the motor under these conditions. plan to go back to willow a whooollle lot more this year now that my car aint hurt anymore finally...been piecing together low boost custom turbo kit..but maybe thinkin about selling what ive acquired so far if this seems like a bad idea to u whove been boosted for awhile and have some good knowledge on the subject...thanks peace

When you say roadracing, I think you mean open track events like time trial and driver school right? as road race are wheel to wheel and need a lot more requirements like liciencing, fully prepped car with full cage, full safty gear...and so on. I've autox a lot with my turbo b18c and some open track events, first, you definitely need a standalone ECU to make it reliable. the only way you can find the right suspension set up for your car is from trial and error form doing a bunch of autoxing and drivers school. this is some item I recomend, Good fuel delivery system...standalone ecu, a good LSD, oil cooler, good grippy tires, money and the most important of all---seat time!

i have a B16 crx and the turbo is going on this week sometime.

Im planning on taking the car to an event in april with boost.

My daily driving is going to be at 8 psi, max 15 psi.,

But for road race events im going to boost only 6 psi.

As far as wear and tear.,... If you putting a turbo on the car why worry about that at road races and autox... your tearing it up just going down the street boosting.

As far as cooling your oil, im running a oil cooler placed behind the FMIC....

Hope that helps

well i dunno about full blown race spec...but just like the willow open track events
where its just basically like free lapping all day..practice..ive never done driver school..i shouldve tho..i just toom a few laps with the instructor the first time and hes like okay go for it..lol

but i was just basically asking about people experiences with boost mainly..mashin on the car for like 15 minutes str8..like a normal heat session

auto Xing with turbo just plain sucks, most of time in the tight coarse they lay out, when your car comes on boost, the wheels spin and you go straight instead of turning, then you got the extra weight of the turbo kit over the front wheels,no good, and u will get eaten alive by N/A cars.

I agree with everything you said except that it sucks... If you go out and expect to win any class with a turbo honda, you're not gonna have fun. If you go out to learn about your car and improve on your own times, it can be a great experience. I've autox'd with the turbo, no lsd and on top of all that - on street tires. I don't think my times improved much at all over being N/A but it's alot more fun having that power available and trying to transfer as much of that power to the ground. I remember being N/A I could just floor it coming out of turns, now piloting the car through the course requires a whole lot more skill.

I will be starting doing auto x soon, adapting the way my car handles and step up to road racing. I'm just going to do this for fun and experience, not for competition. NA vs. FI is a different beast when it's ran on an open road course and will need lots of skills to maintain your hp at a given rate without breaking tire loose when coming out of the corner.

Its will suck if you don't setup your car right, it sucks because ppls think you will be competetive just by bolting on a drag kit. There is a turbo charged civic that took the first place for the year end pts in nnjr and nyr SCCA in Street mod class last season. How do I know?....cause I'm behind the wheel of that car . D-Man, since you are in NY your can come to nnjr or nyr scca events to prove me wrong.

9-12psi seems way high to run auto-x's with, but Im no expert. If I would auto-x my R the first thing I would do is swap out my t3/t04e with my smaller t3 to have the power come on a lot quicker then only run like 5-6 psi depending on how the tires hold up.

I just did a trac event a couple of weeks ago in my ITR. I turned over 40 laps in a 4 hour period and never had an issue with the motor. Now my brakes OTOH...

yeah it may seem kind of high but the motor is built for this and the turbo is a HKS gt2510 ballbearing turbo, its basically a t3t04 hybring with a fin design for faster spool, (i beleive from what i have thried to research....plsu this is what my motor guy told me i should run, so we will see

in a week or so its goin in and then to autosalon.....then to its first race
