ring gap
hello every one,I am about to reasemble my b16a,my goal for this season is 300-325hp on boost and 75 shot from a direct port nitrous kit.
here are the parts i use for my built
jdm b16a with devcon liquid metal block guard
81.5mm 9.8.1 flat top manley pistons w/2618 alloy
eagle rods
std acl race main and rods bearing
micropolish stock crank shaft
arp head studs
cometic low comp gasket
b16a port and polish head
3 angle valve job
supertech black nitride ss valves
to make a long story short i send the block and pistons with manley spec sheet to a near by speed shop when the block came back from the machine shop the speed shop oner told me he ask the machiniste to bore 0.0025 instead of 0.0035 as recommand by manley i told him why he didn't fallow the manley spec's he anser; this is my special recepe!!! so i assemble the block and grind the rings 0.025 as he told me.
3 monts later i was about to put the engine in the car for summer and a read on hondatech that 0.0025 was not appropriate for the kind of power wanted.
so i desasemble the block send it to a machine shop on my own to re do the pistons to wall clearance to 0.0035,i ask the guy for the ring gap he told me my rings are good for scrap. 0.025 is way off, he said; 0.012 to 0.014 will be fine
what ring gap would you use with my set up???
thanks for your anser
sory for my poor english!!!
if manley wants .0035" pwc i would do .0040-.0045" due to the heat built up by boost
rings i like .0018-19" for the top ring and .0022"ish for the second and .0015 for the oil cont rings, build it loose for boost
