Default retarding timing when VTEC kicks in?

does the honda ecu retard timing when VTEC kicks in or do any of you tuners or self tuners retard timing when vtec kick in? i'm asking cause, the sec vtec kicks in, i get a spike in my KNOCK VOLTS, way above my normal engine noise, and the spike occurs at 2,200ish rpms @3psi, and thats the rpms i have my vtec set to enggae at. and i only get the spike when vtec engages, no where else in the rpms, and my air:fuel ratio is in the 11.5:1 range. why would it knock? its not a audible knock where i can hear it.

btw, this is a F23 turbo'ed accord running AEM EMS v1.03 and AEM UEGO.

I don't know a lot about the F series engines, but isn't that kinda low for VTEC engagement?

2200 rpm seems really low for vtec.
