Default Research time!

Ok, starting with the general topic.
88-91 hatch/CRX, looking at boosting a D16 w/ a T25 running between 10-12 psi. to start.
Trying to figure out which is the best motor to run?
These are the options D16A6 / D16Z6 / D16Y7 / D16Y8 or a D16Z6 block w/ any of the before mentioned motors head?
If you want to get really informative, then give internal changes for running 15-20 psi on A D16Z6 block and any head suitable.
Also which would yield more reliable power Vtec or non-Vtec, and why?
If any one wants too, give a custom build up, using a D16Z6 block and a T25 turbo.
Or any websites that would help me find the information needed for my questions.
Only thing I ask is be reasonable on cost, not looking for a break your bank set up, Just cost effective.
Thanks-Jason

Look at http://www.homemadeturbo.com under there projects page.. They did a few motors with t-25. They used a d16z6 at like 12 psi and yielded like 180 hp and 180 lb trq on stock internals.. I am building my motor right now D16z6 with z6 head. Internals are Je 8.5:1 on crower 4320 billet rods, with arp head studs with a stock headgasket. Will be running a Std manifold with adapter and t3 from a thunderbird also I cant decided fuel management. Either its going to be hondata s200b with dsm 450s or vafc with 450s. Both with fuel pumps. As of now I have about 700 into my complete setup thats including buying motor and pistons and rebuilding it. So I am doing pretty good. The plan is to run 15 psi daily so shooting for 250+ hp and a low 13 sec time slip or maybe a high 12 either with slicks. so my final price will be about 1300-1500 into the complete motor and turbo package dyno tuned for 15 psi. Thats a pretty good price.. Also this is going into a 90 crx si. But I am done ranting now cuz my crank needs to go to the machine shop to get polished and they close soon

Thanks for the info. If you don't mind, I would like to see a break down list of the parts and cost. If not it's all good.
Thanks again-Jason

If you're looking for a simple, cost-efective set-up, I'd recommend either an D16A6 or D16Z6. Both are among the stronger D-series motors from what I've gathered. Then I'd just rip the stuff from a DSM; O2 housing, turbo, sidemount, injectors, etc.

Just take a look at www.homemadeturbo.com if they're up and running again. Lots of good information there.

Ok Let me think if I can remeber the money I spent so far..

Motor:
d16z6 full swap tranny/head.. traded a kid a aem intake for a type R 3" and a leather arm rest pad from an integra. He did a b16 swap in his 94 RS. Motor had a spun bearing so full rebuild was necessary.
Je 8.5:1 pistons and crower 4320 billet rods 650.00
bearings were 99.. for mains,thrust,rod
front and rear oil seal were like 50.00-75.00
headgasket got from a friend for 15 bux new
Turbo Parts:
T3 from an 84 ford turbo coupe 60 trim compressor 63 compressor house.. free from a buddy.. actually I helped him prep his car for paint.
Turbo manifold or std manifold free from a kid who did a swap..
Adapter plate 10 bucks for the steel and had my buddie cut it with a torch at work..
Side mount innercooler from a saab Free
Dsm 1g bov 20 bucks from dsmtrader.com
Things still needed:
dsm 450 injectors 50 dollars from dsmtrader.com
fuel management.. either vafc and walbro 255 (Vafc brand new 200 from a friend who got it as a present and is to dumb to figure it out)
Or.. Hondata s200b I think its like 475 then 200-300 for tuning..
Then welding all I need to do is weld up my piping and down pipe also my oil pan for the -10an fitting..
Things I dont need but I am buying.. Defi bf series 60mm boost guage and monitor looks like a vafc but has oil pressure, fuel pressure, egt guage, and some other things.. basically its every guage u need in one.. those 2 are 565 dollars I believe.

so thats 2159.00 for a reliable turbo motor running 15 psi tuned with hondata s200b with high quality monitor equipment in a crx.. so I think its worth it.. It should be a fast little car..
Oh yea I sold the d16z6 tranny for 200 dollars and the pistons for 75 dollars so that makes the whole thing 1884 dollars.. In my eyes thats a deal and a half especially beating up on mustangs and people who talk **** thinking d series are nothing and they cant make power!

Once again , Thank you for your information. This helps me get an idea of the components and cost needed and possible donors.
Thanks-Jason
