Default Reliable Turbo Teg

I have a 95 Integra LS with 140,000 miles and Comptech boltons. My goal is for a 200 whp car (of course when I get there I'll want more) and I think a DIY "junkyard turbo" would be the best way to get me there at a low cost. People have said that 200 whp is easy with a turbo, only need 6.5 pounds of boost (.45 bar)? Anyways, I need my car to last me another few years... ie, six years, through college. I know I need to do a compression and leakdown test before any turbo work... I'm just wondering if I can have a 200 whp daily driven low boost turbo Integra that will last me a while? I like to autocross more than I like to drag race. If you guys have any suggestions, feel free to post.

Thx,
Ben

i'm not sure how close to 200whp the greddy kit will get you but it would be a good reliable cheap turbo set-up, and it would also be good for autocross..junk yard turbo's are sometimes hit and miss

Um doesn't greddy mean cheap as in $3000? I was thinking cheap as in <$2000. But anyway, that's not my question, just a side comment. Don't flame me for wanting a cheap turbo setup plz that's not what this is about.

Thx for the reply b16ahybrid,
Ben

Nothing wrong with a cheap turbo set-up. I would say if you're very clever and take the "right" short cuts you can get a relatively reliable 200whp set-up for an attractive price.

Used B-series manifold w/t3 flange
Used T3 turbo off of SAAB turbo/Thunderbird turbo -ebay or junkyard
used FMIC
cutom charge/intercooler piping - JC Whitney or the like
1g DSM BOV
manual boot controler
DSM 450cc injectors with resistor(s) box
Hondata s100 w/boost option or SMC (super map controller)
High flow fuel pump
Dyno tuning

I found a way to put together a NICE junkyard turbo setup for around $1000. IM for details. I was going to keep this info secret for my setup, but I'm willing to share it with others if they are willing to help me do R&D for us cheap bastards!

Thanks,
Charles Weller

You can probably do it for around 1000$. Depends what you are looking for though.

Why are you keeping it a secret? We are here to help each other out and make better cars. I think you missed the point of Honda-Tech. Now if you were a 8-9 sec car that would be a different point in keeping you setup secret, but you could share then .

Depends on what I'm looking for? Well... I always get the best of everything, and frequently search to find a lower price on a better item. But I guess I'd have to make sacrifices to meet my price mark, like lots of used components and forfeiting good fuel management programs or AFCs or whatever. What should I not be looking for?

Also, looking at this another way, how much whp and how must boost would I need to make my 4-door Integra run a mid to low 13 second 1/4 mile but still be suited towards autocross instead of drag?

Ben

youre gonna need more than 200whp to get a 4 door teg to do low 13s on street tires...and it would be better if you picked autocross or drag, one or the other b/c that will have the most impact on selecting your turbo size. for autox you will need quick spool up, for drag, well i guess thats preference, but i doubt a small turbo on low boost will get u into the mid-low 13s. and i would get a hondata for fuel management since u are OBD-1. if thats outta the budget, search for vafc hack in this forum. good luck

Yeah the lists I'm seeing for cheap turbo setups say VAFC Hack. But a good fuel management is important, right? So I should not skimp on that I guess. Hondata s100? Anyway, if I had to pick I'd pick autocross. And how much am I going to need to get it to do 13.5 1/4?

Thx,
Ben

Reason I'm keeping it secret? If I posted the information on a few of these parts, everyone would start buying it before I've purchased this stuff... and therefore the price on these items would jump to the point where it wouldn't be worth it... I've seen it happen before... that's why I'm keeping the awd civic/integra information secret until I'm done with it... These parts for the turbo kit are RARE as hell, but cheap if you can find them. I'm here to help, but not give anything away YET! Be patient with me guys. I promise after I'm done with the project, you will get ALL the details on how I did it! Let me do the **** ups on the R&D, and buy the parts really cheap before I have to compete with others to buy this stuff... I only have a $6k budget for this as it is... Hope you guys understand!

Thanks,
Charles Weller

140k miles and you want to turbo and last another 6 years and be "reliable"?. MAYBE with standalone and Greddy or other high quality kit at low boost, but I would still be worried about that baby.

You could get 200 WHP with a good LSVTEC setup for not too much money, and you'd get half of a new engine. If you're not dragging then you shouldn't have to worry about the torque you're missing out on I guess...don't know how much that matters in autox.

Good luck!
