Default Regarding "Are These Chinese?"

The second one listed:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT30R...3A1|240%3A1318

Has all the normal earmarks of being one of the standard Chinese turbos found on eBay, but I saw a turbo with that insignia on it listed in the big annual SEMA magazine that comes out sort of in conjunction with the SEMA show. So I took a look at the company's website. Could it be Chinese stuff with better quality control?

emotor is one of the founders of the chinese crap revolution

i love how SEMA has this action network to stop counterfeit product, yet a GOOD majority of their members produce knockoffs of some sort

I have had two Garrett's let go on me with less than 1000 miles 3rd one worked great. I know **** happens but you pay extra to minimize that possibility, now they do have warranty that's the good thing, but u basically paid full price for a refurbished turbo. I have also had a Precision sc61. which of course is a garrett with tons of miles and never a problem. but have seen one fail at 800 miles on my buddies 1jz. so in the end it seems your paying extra for a warranty and not necessarily more reliability.

I know how honda-tech is and is as long as a brand name anything fails it MUST be user error. sorry but it wasn't.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with my Precision turbo, and if I wanted to try something else, I think I would try something from Borg-Warner, so I'm happy with my (at least not overtly) Chinese turbochargers. I just wanted to throw this out there, since the eBay price is about half or less of an American DBB turbo, as opposed to what we often see, 1/4 price-ish.

TiAL's insight is interesting, and no doubt based on first hand knowledge gained at the SEMA show and other such sources. Good to know!

If you have to ask, then it probably is. Kind of like when you pick up a hooker, if you have to ask if there a dude, 9/10 times they are.
