Default Recomendation for turbo

Dear Honda-Tech,

I need your expert opinion on what turbo I should use for a pretty off the wall project.

The engine it will be going on is a 5.9 liter V8, which redlines max power a little before 5k rpm and max torque around 3k.

I would like to get roughly 400-500 horsepower/torque with the addition of the turbo.

I DO NOT want a dual turbo setup, I will have it installed after the y-pipe before the cat.

Thanks HT, let me know your thoughts.

Those turbo recommendations seem rather large for his 400-500 whp mark dont you think. I thought the -61 was rated at ~650whp and the -67 was ~750whp.

Why would you not want something like a GT35R. With that motor he would have quick spool and a nice powerband.

Im no turbo expert so please advise...

platinum.

the turbo suggestions are a little large, but i doubt he is going to be maxxing them out.

Also, what are you doing to the internals to be able to hold this kind of power??? That might effect the choice of turbo as well....

Engine will remain stock internally. No need to mess with this engine unless I go for huge numbers... which I am not.

Stock the engine is @ 245hp and 340tq crank.

Many of these turbo choices are a bit large for what you're looking for on your larger V8. Since most of the 302s I used to work with bone stock could hold over 400whp, I was calculating your setup, and found that there are several choices to use that are a bit under the T67, which is really a bit large, especially when you want to make use of the full powerband. Please PM me, for I have several options that would work besides the obvious large units that were mentioned above. For even on a 5.9 litre, you still want to use a broad powerband for the rev range that teh 5.9 litre has.
