ram air time....

i work at my dad's hardware store and we are usually pretty slow on saturdays, so i got this crazy idea in my head this moring so i went to work on it. it was really easy b/c i had all the supplies i needed right there.
i've seen other Itntegra's with ram air, but most of them had BOTH lights on passenger side removed
here's a little closer view..... i put Nascar style grill screen over the opening to block out large debris

heres and even closer view.... if you look closely you can see the green foam rubber air filter (lawn mower filter)

under the hood.... the filter is inside the black reducer coupling with some more of that grill mesh there to keep it from sucking the filter itself in

let me know what you guys think

Maybe you could install one of AEM's bypass valves. I heard that they don't always work well, but it might be better than nothing. Just a thought...

If you want ram air, buy a Ponticrap.
Ram air is a lie perpetuated by Pontiac. Hell, their ram air systems aren't even real ram air. Take a close look and you'll see holes and **** all over the place. Why do they do this? Incase your dumb *** stuffs the front of the car into a snow bank and clogs the inake holes, the car will still run.
It only works at certain engine RPM, manifold vacuum, and vehicle speed. And even then, the intake has to be tuned to that specific resonance. It's like a carburetor- it kicks *** at one throttle position, but is absolutly worthless every other time. It's good for NAStyCAR and IRL oval crap where you're running the same RPM, speed, and throttle setting for the whole race, but for the street, drag strip, autox course, and road course, it's a waste of time. If you feel any difference over your previous intake setup, it's either because you're pulling colder air in, or it's a placebo effect.
What will happen with your design is that the air will "pile up" at the inlet and create a high pressure bubble, effectively forcing air around it. And I won't even bother with rain/ snow/ dirt because you probably already thought of that...
Ram air is a joke, a misconception, and a pipe dream. If you want an efficient intake, get a turbo.
If you can't afford that, find yourself a nice CAI.

I have a similiar set up on my car. I have a turbo so tube is coming from the side with a K&N cone style filter on it then I built box around it. I'm thinking of taking out the driver side hibeam and puting a oil cooler there.
