It's a water jacket. You can run coolant lines to and from the center section to help cool the turbo.

You don't need to hook them up, but it's not that hard to do, and it's some added insurance.

You don't even have to block it off.

Yeah you dont have to block it off ...

I have actually heard from a few people that when pushing your turbo to make its upper limits of power the coolent will actually cause enough friction to loose a few whp over not using it. Now if its true or not I dunno , I dont run it ...

i don't understand where friction could be as all it does is cool the housing and not touch any actual moving parts... if you can use coolant on a turbo USE it

Valid point and using coolant prolongs the life of a turbo without timing it. You can shut it off right after running it hard and it does very little damage to the turbo. That's why factory turbocharged vehicle's turbos are water cooled. It's all up to you.

i'm j/w how you would go about hooking coolant lines up to it, cuz i dont see any holes or anything to bolt a flange to or anything

...unless its internally threaded

It's internally threaded. You use banjo fittings.

If you can find them.

I had a really hard time finding banjo fittings for my old water cooled turbo. I ended up buying some brass barb fittings from homedepot, they actually worked really well and never leaked.

P.S. I did buy the banjo fittings from ATP ($$$$) but they didn't fit my turbo so I had to resell them.

Cheap brass fittings FTW!

adding the coolant line would be smart as its added cooling

with water cooled turbos a turbo timer isnt needed

with oil cooled turbos turbo timers also arent needed given thee motor is ran a short period of time to cool the turbo down

...that's what a turbo timer does.

Turbo timers are a waste of money and a unnecessary need to hack your harness up...... I don’t know of many people that will run there motor and boost for a long amount of time and then turn it off right away.... most people will drive under no boost for a few mins before they shut the motor off.....

To the OP if you have the money I recommend hooking the lines up for the coolant
