question about this set up
I have an old friend who is about to sell me his acura integra. I'm going to buy it regardless because its a good deal I cant pass up. My question is this. I've always wanted to go turbo. I want to know if you guys think I could go turbo with this engine in its current form reliably. Heres the setup. I'm not certain on all the details but I can find out.
B18B LS motor 1997
stock sleeves
ls rods
itr pistons
head might be milled a little bit Im not sure.
3 angle valve job
ferrea titanium valves (i think)
Titanium valve springs and retainers
crane cams stage 3 or 4
arp head studs
skunk 2 intake manifold
jg 68mm throttle body (I think)
I think it had a chipped ecu with some sort of base tune right now. not sure which ecu it is.
upgraded clutch (not sure what brand)
rebuilt ls tranny
My friend built this motor with another friend we both know to run direct port nitrous but he never got around to getting it tuned on the bottle so he never sprayed the motor. The motor doesnt have a lot of miles on it either. I just anna know if I can boost it without changing anything to the motor and can I do it safely you think if I get it tuned on the dyno of course? Also does anyone know how much hp and trq I can make with this kind of set up? I'd appreciate a lot of feedback. Thanks!

I forgot to mention i think it has crv b20 injectors in it. I realize I porbably will have to upgrade to something better. oh and it already has a walbro 255 fuel pump and some sort of FPR.
itr pistons are a little hi for a boosted setup, injectors are small as stated, that's all i really see wrong. You can still do it, just won't be as reliable with a higher compression.
Yeah I kinda thought the compression ratio might be an issue but if I'm not mistaken people have boosted plenty stock integra type r's and s2k's ?
I wouldn't necessarily say that. He'll just need to not mess around in the process of getting the new equipment in and getting it properly tuned. It would be best to know what compression he is, so he knows what he's starting with. The OP also needs to have a power goal in mind.

Thanks shodan. Does the compression rating vary among itr's cuz all I know is they are stock oem itr pistons. I think they may be 11:1. I guess I have to find out if the head was milled or not in order to know the exact compression ratio? Also I don't exactly have a power goal in mind with this because I don't know what a set up like this is capable of making. Second, I know I will be limited on how much power I can make considering it has stock sleeves and rods and a high comp ratio. I guess I'm just hoping to hit some decent numbers on a conservative and safe tune.

your compression will be different because you have a longer stroke then a itr motor, itr is 87.2mm ls is 89mm. also it depends on if the heads been decked and how much as well as if the block has been decked and how much. also flat faced valves or not.
I hate to be skeptical but I hear detonation if a turbo gets put on that motor. Too many unknowns and I thinks going on. Why not run the motor thats in it? whats kind of power is it making? I mean worse case scenario is you pull the motor and sell it for a stock LS or GSR and boost it.
Ok thanks. I'll find out if the head or block was decked and about the valves.

Ok he's got ferrea valves on the exhaust side only but he don't know if they are flat faced or not. He said the head was shaved .030. Is there a way to calculate the compression based on this info?
Ok no e85 in this area. U guys think its too much compression to boost it? How much hp u guys think it can make tuned all motor? It has a type r header, cat delete, straight test pipe to an old school tanabe racing medallion cat back! Lol
Well if you keep it all LS your limited, Throw a VTEC head on there with and were in business
The only thing holding you back is the milled head. .030 is quite a bit of milling. With a B16 head you would be at 12.7:1 and with a GSr head right at 13:1. Thats pretty high for a DD, but a thicker then OEM HG is an option to help that out.

that head mill does NOT help when it comes to turboing this engine. I'd put in the proper pistons if you want to do this. Even a thick headgasket would less likely work for his situation
A buddy club 2mm thick (.078") HG with the LS head would make the CR around 10.5:1. That would be safe enough to boost on... or at least I would give it a shot.
I had a .075" thick h.g. on my h22 and it looks like its as thick as a fricken book lol. if I was him I would sell the built bottom end to someone building a na car and buy a nice healthy stock ls bottom end to turbo. plus that way you'll have some cash left over. ls's are dirt cheap

haha
