Default question about HID's

i have a 93 turbo gsr hatch, i also have a HID kit from an 2002 ACURA TL, now my question is, when i turn them on, my AF meter, (autometer and haltech one used also to verify because autometer sucks!) jumps from going back and forth from lean to rich, to only going from lean to stoich, while lighting up like 5 bars at a time, now i was wondering if my HIDS are doing this? the ballast says they work on 13.5 input volts, now i know that electric on the civ is 12 volt, can this be the problem............ or is my alternator not able to power the HID's because its going bad?? any suggestions?? also my reverse lights do not work, every bulb was changes as well as the reverse switch on my tranny, could this all be connected??? reverse used to work when the AF gauge operated 100% under full boost, just incase you need to know im running a DRAG turbo on my stock gsr, 8-9 psi, using FMU and upgraded pump with rc 310's, never had this problem when the setup was in another chasis, let me know what you think............. thanks

First of all your car should be above 13 volts while running. HID's are only 35 watts, but I don't know what the efficiency of the ballast's are. Mine caused my fuse to blow each time they where turned on after installation. I went to the next fuse up, and it worked fine. Check your wiring for corrosion and clean connections. A bad connection can cause wierd things to happen.

If all else fails I would try installing a relay on the stock wiring, and powering the HID's with a new cable run directly from the battery. I think 14 gauge should be sufficient. If you do this, don't forget to purchase a small inline fuse to protect your car.

This problem would have absolutely nothing to do with your turbo. make sure your autometer a/f gauge is connected directly to the oxygen sensor for it's signal and GROUND, don't use a chassis ground for it. Ground problems interfere SIGNIFICANTLY with sensors and, thus gauges as well. If your gauge is grounded in close proximity to the o2 sensor you probably have a ground problem some place else...ie. possibly the HID conversion.

The electrical system on your car is rated at 12v, just like most every car made in the last few decades (though cars will be switching to 42v or so in the near future)...the HID's say 13.5v because your alternator and battery always put out more than 12v, which is the bare minimum for some things to run properly.

In regard to your reverse lights, it could be related, or it could just be a fluke and you've blown a fuse, fuseable link (are there these on hondas?) or a relay.

Also, for future reference...I don't think this is the right forum in which to ask this, since it doesn't have anything to do with a turbo, per se., though it's an honest mistake.
