Default Problem Overheating, 2 headgaskets wtf??

Background info: 84 mm fully built b series block, sleeved, crower rods and je 9:1 pistons with b16 head. I ran lsvtec with same block and head b4 sleeving and rod piston combo for a yr with no probs.

1. Got my motor back and during break in the thing overheats. water is getting in the oil. I called machine shop and he said he used 2 headgaskets wtf!! Is this common practice cuz since the pistons are 9:1 and in combination with b16 head on ls block compression should be around 9.2 or so right? so i don't see the reason for 2 head gaskets and I never asked him to do anything of that nature he did it on his own and I didn't know about it til now. I plan on boosting a decent amount and wondered is this 2 headgaskets thing is commonplace and if not what are ur recommendations as far as headgaskets and to keep it from overheating?

2. Also I noticed it was leaking between the oil pan gasket near the crank and it was all water, my guess is the water filled up and floated on top of the oil from the leaking headgasket...do i need to replace oil pan gasket now too?

3. What about the oil pump, all that water in the motor must have circulated in there too, will a few oil changes be enough to make sure there is no water in there and good to go? Lastly, Upon overheating I immediately stopped the car and haven't driven it since, thanks for any input i need this puppy running asap!

who did your motor, so i can make sure i dont goto them, if its leaking water on the pulley side then it might be your water pump, i dont see why water would leak out and no oil. what did they do to your block? resleeve it? with what parts.

They sleeved it and assembled it with my crower rods and I ordered JE 9:1's through them. During regular driving it didn't leak but while overheating, water came out from where the oil pan meets the block at the right front corner of the motor. If I started it up right now with water in it then it wouldn't leak but there is also tons of water in the oil so I'm letting it sit and seeing what kind of suggestion I get about the headgasket...

My advice would be to purchase an 84.5mm cometic headgasket and tow your car to a reputable shop so they can replace the gasket and look everything over.

Also, is the block o-ringed?

no definitly not a common practice nor a good idea to use 2 gaskets.

Did they check the head to see if its warped? That will cause you to think you have a blown HG when its not.

Well the motor went in to the machine shop in perfectly running form so I doubt the head was warped. The block is not o-ringed but I have talked to a few ppl and they have recommended it. I was not aware of this type of thing until after the problem occured and plan on getting it done b4 turbo goes on and most likely right now.

Average prices on having the block o-ringed??

do ARP studs if you haven't, make sure the head is flat, and you use one stupid gasket... i'd slap your engine builder for that.

no **** make him buy you another gasket, thats the wrong way to build an engine.

If this is a sign of his skills, I wish you luck on future boosting ventures with that motor.
