Default Power FC Idling Problems :((

Hi,

My friend has just got a used power Fc from a board member.

This was tuned on his itr which is very identical in mod specification to my friends itr, so we thought it should plug and play with maps already there and let her rip............................No way.

We plugged in the power fc and the idling is erratic, it fluctuates between 400-1100 rpm all the time and when we try to rev it, a the cel comes on.

Help guys as in Malta there is no one capable of tuning a Power Fc.

This power Fc was tuned by XS engineering, what do you think guys?

Thanking you,

you need to hold the accelerator down steadily at idle speed (800-1100rpms) for at leas 10 minutes...the ECU will then learn to idle. I cheated a bit by disconnnecting one of my vacuum hoses and let it sit for 20 minutes...

read page 12 of the manual.

download it here:

http://www.apexi-usa.com/produ...C.pdf

it describes exactly whats happening with you friend's PFC and tells you to basically do what I said above.

Also, one last thing, if you have the FC commander, make sure that the fuel cut RPM is not set too low. That can also lead to erratic idling too.

did you get it to idle yet? I have the Datalogit if you want the ecu remaped. I can do in about one hour, if your friend is interested in doing that. I run a power fc on my gsr and you have to teach it to idle. It might been set up for bigger injectors and that will trow your idle off to. Let me know if your friend is interested in having it remaped. 98ctr

are you using the same brand injectors?if not you may have to change injector lag time.just adjust it up or down until your a/f gauge starts bouncing around

Its idling !!

But its still not running well

The check engine is coming on from time to time.

We had to change the map sensor and use a 3 bar one as it was mapped on a 3 bar map sensor, not on a stock one.

We wish we live in america so that we can go to a good tuner.

What shall we do guys?

Try contacting one of the Ground Zero Motorsports guys. There are a few of them on this board (Kataku2k3) (Gzero). Ralph, one of the guys at their shop is basically a guru when it comes to this thing. HTH

I would invest in a Datalogit, if you don't have a tuner near you. PFC is very versitle and agreat stand alone if you can tune it.

Hi,

First of all thanks for all your help guys.

I contacted the original owner (from where we bought it) and he told me that this power Fc was tuned by XS engineering.

I contacted XS engineering (i don't know to whom i spoke), they told me it could be a lot of things going wrong and they cannot help over the phone.

The strange thing is that when it had the stock map sensor, it didn't idle, now when we fitted a 3 bar one it does idle.

The power FC is giving no error codes, so i assume that we are not too far off making it function properly.

do you have the fc commander? Sounds like you need to set it for the stock map sensor. At any rate...that thing will need to be tuned. running it as-is is dangerous an can blow your engine, especially if its used. Not telling what the fuel and timing are set at.

Hi Mirai,

Yes we have the Power FC Commander.

The problem is that i thought i could overcome the problem of having no tuners in Malta by buying a preprogrammed pfc and it didn't work out.

i am going to ask you again.do you both have the same brand injectors?if you have different brands, the injector lag time will probably need to be changed.when i got mine, they had set the lag time for blitz injectors, which is what they use.they had it set at .06ms.i called koji and over the phone we adjusted the lag time until the a/f gauge started bouncing around and it was perfect.we wound up with .60ms.

you or your friend might want to look into te DATALOGIT and see if you want to buy it or find somebody close to you that can reprogram the power fc for you. I can do it but I dont' know if you want to ship it up to Seattle, wa just for a reprogram. 98ctr

Why do you need to reprogram it ? And how can you do this correctly without the car? This PFC was bought programed from and H-T member which had all the mods that our friend has. Thats why it was bought.

I know this is a very vast topic but we are trying to help out our friend who has been trying to get his Turbo R work correctly since last year.. believe it or not.

Will it help if we take pics of the readings of the PFC ??

there are several maps that you have to make sure that are right. Just because they had similar mods done to the car as your friend has, it does not mean that it will work right. There are so many that could be different. For example the map sensor could have been different. Apex 3 bar map sensor is diff. then the Greddy 3 bar map sensor. They have diff. number you have to enter and the Greddy 3 bar map sensor its actually a 4 bar sensor. It will read from negative pressure up to 3 bar of boost where the Apex 3 bar will read from neg. pressure up to 2 bar boost. The injectors could be diff type too. You could have the same cc inj. but diff. impendance. The values in the any of the vtec maps could be diff too. That can NOT be changed with the commander. etc. 98ctr
