Possible bad tranny??
I just finished installing my clutch (with the help of an experienced friend) & the car still doesnt move...
its acting as if the tranny isnt going into gear. its like i put it into gear at the shifter, but the tranny is staying in neutral.
im pretty sure the clutch is fine because when i let the clutch pedal up, the motor slows a little because of the added mass of the clutch disc & rotatin assembly.
i bled the cluch, & that didnt change anything either...
any ideas? things to try?

By chance did you install the disc backwards?? That would cause your problem.
If it was the trans you would have probably heard some type of noise---actually you will hear the trans mainshaft turning just by engaging/disengaging the clutch while in neutral.
Im guessing the disc is in backwards.

naw, the clutch disc cannot go in backward (i think). i already asked the guy i did the clutch with & he said it's impossible.
it's an Action 1MDS

shift fork lined up correctly? Enough brake fluid in clutch resevoir?
the only think i can think of is if we didnt align the shift linkages correctly. im gonna mess with that once it stops blizzarding outside...

sounds like clutch wasn't install correctly.
Was it doing this before you changed the clutch?

Check out their cluch install. See if you missed a step.

ok, tell me if im a cheapo or if this is ok.
im going to temporarily install my buddy's extra GSR tranny to try & isolate the problem. i just bought 3 quarts of MTF fluid which is now in the tranny. i dont really feel like buying another 30 bucks for MTF fluid for the next 2 tranny installs. can i just empty what i have now into a clean container & reload it into the new tranny?

if the fluid that comes out is clean then you can reinstall it. if the fluid is dirty i wouldn't put it back in the tranny...
i know on the older honda trannies, 10w30 motor oil is recommended. maybe use that if you are only going to have the tranny on the car for a short time.

Double check the axles where they go into the tranny, and make sure they're fully seated. Sometimes if they're out just a slight bit it'll look like they're in but won't engage the teeth in the differential and when you engage the clutch the differential just spins without moving the axles. Might wanna give 'em a quick look just to make sure first.
Hope it turns out to be somethin easy,

however, I can still put it in & out of any gear while the engine is running, without using the clutch pedal... so my friend tells me that there is something wrong with the shifting parts in the tranny. possibly broken or bent shift forks.
i found a set of all 3 shift forks for 110 shipped brand new. how much would it cost to have them installed? or have the tranny totally rebuilt?

Disc can go in the wrong way, did the part that raises up in the middle about a half inch (where springs are) face out toward you before you put everything else back on? IF not you put it on wrong way.
I may have your solution. I just did a clutch/flywheel instal on my Civic with GSR motor. When I put it all back together, it wouldn't shift at all, if It did shift, it was like I was not using the clutch and just jaming it into gear.
I finally figured out that the slave cylinder (part on the front of tranny that hydraulic line goes to) wasn't engaging the arm that comes out of the tranny, check to see if the ball on the slave cylinder is in the socket of the arm that comes out of the tranny. if not, pull off the slave cylinder and fit it back in.
Another thing was that we didn't bleed the lines good enough. U have to make sure you get ou all the air or it won't engage clutch all the way. Make sure when your bleeding you don't run out of fluid in the resiviour or you will have air in the lines all over agian.

IF your even considering arebuilding your tranny, just buy another used one. I fucked up 1 and 3rd gear in a previous tranny and said screw it and just bought a used one for like $700.00

yea, we put the clutch in the right way. the pressure plate doesnt fit on if the disc is on backwards.
yea, the slave cylinder & TO bearing lever/fork is all working correctly.
& we bled the clutch a few times with a vinyl tube & a cup of brake fluid. so im pretty sure its workin right.

Re: Possible bad tranny?? (b18cya)
i'm having the same problem with my new set-up....ITR tranny w/ ACT clutch
i can sometimes get the car into 1st and 2nd, but never reverse....3rd-5th work fine....
my axles are definetely in because both tires get power...i'm gonna bleed the clutch system and check the linkage tomorrow and try to manually shift the gears right from the outside of the tranny....maybe some bent forks or something???
bump for some help
