you guys don't need 500whp to run fast times, 325whp should be easy 11's in an EG, you can make that with ease on a D with just pistons/rods

the car this is going in is a crx so it should'nt need that much power to get some good times at the track. 12's should be fairly easy to achieve with the d.

i had a turbo del sol run 14.9 stock except for the greddy kit. no suspension (unless you count my broken front spring) and no clutch. it wasn't that fast but a hella fun daily driver.

I strongly believe in the single cam turbo. I kept everythign and sold the sol for a crx. I have a z6 with LS rods and srp pistons and a block gaurd. I plan on running ~12psi. That is gonna be an awsome ride. I just want to break into the 13's

build a d. it has been done numerous times with good results. The only thing i can say is d parts are EVERYWHERE and cheaper than B. for me that was a huge part of it. not to mention dealing with buyign new mounts/ECU/tranny when swapping. , but d parts are getting more expensve everyday, b/c more and more people realize they dont need a B to be fast.

stick to the SOHC.

imo...

b series for da stunnaz
d series for da budget pimps

if you have the $$$ go for it. but like tinker said... for the cost of a swap (or less) you can have a bad *** d-series motor. and i like that fact that if a stock one blows up... replacements are cheap. and as mpir3 said... not everyone need a 500whp street car... hell some people need to stay far from it hehe. besides as we all know... the faster u go the more it costs... so either way.

I'll put a little different spin on it... (got kicked off...)

Takes two pages worth of posts to find someone who uses the steering wheel. My boosted d16 is in a daily driver/ autocross car. I'll never care about numbers in excess of 250 whp because any more than that is utterly useless. But, no matter what the B lovers do, my motor weighs 100 lbs less.

I am looking to be in the mid to low 12s on a completely stock d with just turbo, good fuel and engine management and slicks.

Well Brad, you beat me to it!! I am surprised noone else thought to mention that the D series weighs approx. 100lbs less than the B series.

I just sold my B20z and I am in the process of building a D16z6 turbo motor to autocross with. Definitely go with the D series!!

my vote is a d-series.. like tinker said.. toss up 3g's for a b series and with that money you could have a fully built d-series killing machine..

i ran a 13.3@106 with a stock z6 with a 2" dp... that 106 was a 12 second run.. i was running on shitty hx's with factory firestones... i raced groundzero's 10 second red hatch on 1-5 that one night we went out racing.. he came up from like 6 cars behind me and pulled aight on me... he went first hehe.. it was fast though and i can vouch for it..

EDIT- i 0wn page 3!

nah.. i live in spokane.. but remember that night after HIN when you went to southcenter to meet up with all those other dudes? i was the guy in the white coupe.. one of you guys came up to me and was like, "so whats in this car now." and all this.. tall white dude.. he said that the car used to be his.. b20/vtec that used to run 12's all motor with 5lug and all that mess... but yea.. anyways.. i was there and i kinda raced the red hatch.. ive read alot about him and when i saw him i was thinking like woah.. i have to see how hard an 11 second street monster will pull on me.. wasn't to impressed, but then again, it's hard as hard to pull like hard on someone already going like 75mph.. it was fun though.. i also heard that he got beat that night by a blue eg style body hatch at the street races..?

The D is a great motor if you put time into it, same with the B which of course has more potential, but then we could also say the 2.2ltr H has more, and further still a K or how about a K24/k20 hybrid? Comparing motors is pointless, someones is always better, faster, bigger, so pick one, build it, enjoy it.

well said rob. Why try to say it another way when someone already said it well.

just my .02, i would go D and drop some jaws,
you can always sell it later and buy another project.

JFK78 ran a 12.3 on street tires in a gutted VX hatch w/greddy kit, running the BLUE BOX.

But his motor had rods/pistons, so nevermind...

i highly doubt that.... that trip to seattle was just after brian ran 10.98 at woodburn a week or two before that... in fact he broke an axle on the freeway just boosting up 4th gear....

if the Dseries is cheap. 75 bucks in my case. or its already in your car. (free!!) then build it and boost it. if u have a dx engine and would have to spend 500 bucks for the tranny, ecu, engine, harness, and other odds and ends. go with the Bseries.

personaly im building a D16z6 for boost and hoping for 300hp or more.

Oh that's cool, yea I remember that night tho... Back then his car wasn't very consistent so it probably wasn't as fast as it could have been but oh well... Anywho I think I know what race you're talking about and if I can find it on tape I'll put it up... He raced that B18C/EH2 that had PR3 slugs, etc. and he got killed off the line but he caught the guy and pulled past him while missing fourth like 3 times (he never did get it into gear but I guess he got enough of a pull third to slingshot him on by) but who cares cuz how fair is that, haha... Good time, Latez

The D Series is definately getting more attention that when I first came to this board. It's good to see that alot more people are becoming open minded. D series support here in Tampa is very minimal. Everyone is all about the B hype here and thinks there is no potential in a D series at all. It's fun when they loose a race to me.

That's really cool when someone sells a B for a D.

Something to keep in mind, is the old power to weight game, this coupled with excellent torque, the D is great. Us Mono-Cams are limited by...well, our cam tuning ability, but im not letting it stop me! Its not uncommon for a good driver to run 12's at 12psi in a D powered hatch.. The only thing i wish was that somehow, we could make our transmissions stronger...but hey at like $50 a piece, i dont feel bad when one bites the dust.
