Default plug gap causes problems?

I did a lotta searching to find the correct plug and gap for my d16y7 with greddy kit and came up with this: NGK BKR7E gapped to .030. Well I got the plugs and gapped them to this and the car sputters, so I turn around and regap them to .035. The car drives ok but idle drops from 700 to 500. so i pull over and regap them to .040 (stock gap) and drove around a little and the idle is better and it drives way better, any reason for this?

I don't think those are the right plugs (I could be wrong though). I use different ones in my d16y8. When I get home from work I'll post the part number, can't remember what they are offhand.

all of the searches led me to that plug, and so did an NGK rep. there is also another plug that goes well with our turbo apps but the NGK rep said to use the BKR7E

what plug are you using? Recommended here is the NGK BKR7E-11 i believe. do you have stock ignition?

i always thought to much of a spark plug gap on a FI car will be dangerous if it doesnt have enough spark to ignite the mixture ... esp at high rpm.

i have that same problem with my d16y8 turbo. i have bkre7's gapped to .032 and my idle studders but only from like high 600's to low 700's... so i just learned to live with it.

my car always feels shakey during idle like its having a hard time. almost like its gonna stall.

id also like to know why a gap of .040 is better than say... .030 ... considering the smaller the gap the easier it is for the spark to ignite the mixture... but then again not get a complete burn

yeah I have stock ignition and the BKR7E doesnt say 11 on it though

well my car wouldnt go any higher than 2900 cause it sputtered so much. then when i re-did the gap to .035 is idled way too low.

Just ran out to my car. NGK ZRF7F Gapped at 32 These are what my mechanic put in. no problems with idle, car runs great. Oh BTW, I'm running MSD 6BTM, cap, wires, and coil. Hope I got the right ones!!

if you are adding about 75-100 horse, you only need to go 1 step colder. On my Z6, it requires ZFR5J-11. I run ZFR6J-11 because I am making between that. Go here for more plug info.

The "11" designation just means that the particular plug is pregapped at 1.1 mm. BKR7E and BKR7E-11 are the same plug.

see i ran one step colder spark plugs and it made my car run like crap, so i changed them out and went with stock plugs, and gapped it to 32. the car was running good the last time i drove it
