Re: Pistons for Turbo
I've always had great luck with srp's and JE's, but like stated forged anything will be better than stock. Also just go with stock bore if it doesnt need to be machined, but if it does just go with the standard .20 over to 81.50mm. Displacement is less important when you start to go with boosted applications imo so just go with whatever ya already got

Re: Pistons for Turbo
No, he probably meant .020", which is ~ .5mm
Any name brand of piston installed appropriately should perform just fine for you. This means that you should make sure your cylinders are within spec for the pistons you want to use. For the best results, do it the right way and pull the block and get it machined with oversized pistons.

Re: Pistons for Turbo
Okay I'm confused. I'm buying a b18c R that's been bored out 20 over. Does that make is a 81.2mm?
I need to know cause I wanna Turbo this block and make sure I have lower c/r
And if the size of the engine is 20 over what size pistons do I need? How much clearance does the piston need from the block?

Re: Pistons for Turbo
i was planning on running at least 400hp
but i havent even looked into running E85
I need to lower the compression rate to at least 9:1 and i wasnt sure what pistons to get for 81.5mm i dont want to much grinding. Ill prolly have to sleeve it for extra protection. But im not even sure how to do that.
lol I hatez bein n00b =/

Re: Pistons for Turbo
You have some reading to do. Do not go less than 9:1. If you run 91 octane run closer to 9.5 and with E85 go to 10:1. What do you mean by grinding? Pistons don't grind... Sleeving too? If you sleeve the block, your current bore doesnt matter. If you sleeve it go to at least 83mm. Try the search function

lol
Wow I just proved my N00b skills.
I didnt mean grinding. I meant like the wear on the block from friction. I was told I should have it sleeved with benson. And I had no idea that sleeved kits were that much bigger. Prolly why the can take more turbo cause of the lower compression rate.
What are the benefits of E85? cause you seem very supportive of it. lol

Re: Pistons for Turbo
You won't wear the sleeves much unless your piston to wall clearance is horribly off. Keep in mind aftermarket sleeves are cast iron... not aluminum. You can have a little piston slap when cold but this normally goes away when the engine warms because most forge pistons expand. When you buy pistons they come with install guidelines for your machine shop that include PTW clearance. All you need to do is buy the right bore. Some people go to 85mm on their sleeved blocks (84 is most common).
Summer blend E85 is 105 ocatane or so. Clearly much better than 91... With the right fuel set up you could get 1200whp out of E85 on a 4 banger

Re: Pistons for Turbo
For any 450hp honda motor you're going to need a new fuel pump and injectors (larger injectors for E85 because you need 30% more fuel). Fuel lines, rail, filter and pressure regulator are all ok stock. When you replace the needed parts you can run any fuel you want, 91/93 octane, E85, E98, C16, Q16, etc...

Re: Pistons for Turbo
So i found a set of pistons on JE
they are $671 for the whole set and they lower the compression ratio to 9:1
Nice!
Too bad it doesnt tell me whether or not it comes with or if I need
Retaining clips
piston pins
Im assuming I would need 4 of each item?

Dont spend $700 and buy them off JE's site, you can get CP's for way less than that.
They also have JE's if you're set on that brand.

So the JE 9.0:1 81.5mm pistons are listed as part # 188982 so you call RSP and tell them the part number you want etc. That comes with the wrist pins, the pin locks, and the piston rings.
