Default Pipes blowing off... Why???

I read once in a while that some guys in here are blowing the pipes off the IC.

Why is that? Stupid as the Q may be, i want to know what its supposed to feel like so when and if it does it to me i will know whats going on.

What kind of hose clamps are you guys running. I was thinking about running Silicon Couplinks and use the T clamos. Expensive yes but better than the conventional clamps IMHO.

Thanks in advance

It also has to do with the surface of the metal close to where the the clamps and rubber hoses go. The rubber hoses wont have much "grip" if the pipes are made of teflon coated chrome piping, cause the piping is to "slippery" know what I mean? the rubber step-hoses has to be able to hold onto the IC piping. maybe if the metal close where IC pipes link up were given a rough surface, there might not be as many problems.

what does it feel like? If its partially off, your blow-off valve will start sounding "different" and your boost will come ever so slowly, with very little boost at all. If it totally comes off, your car will feel like a sloppy verion of your engine, NA Full throttle will achieve 0 PSI!! wow

I saw a pic of the Signal Auto Chop Top2 in a old Super Street mag. today and saw a cool trick they did for the IC piping. First they used hose clamps and on top of that hey also used a bracket....they drilled holes after the clamps and bolted the bracket down to each pipe with the bracket holding each pipe together. I dunno if they had one on each side though. Pretty good idea IMO . As for how it feels when it comes apart....you loose boost and it kinda bogs at higher RPMs. Basically drives like crap.

are the pipes "connected" together with the brackets? and do they drill through the IC pipe?

get your pipes bead rolled. it creates a little lip on the end of each pipe that prevents them from slipping out of the hose clamp. fmax does it to all of their i/c pipes.

I had that problem, due to psi I was running the 1st care pipe coming off the turbo kept popping off after drivning arund hard a couple times and all you hear is a big POOOF and then th power loss , no boost..etc etc.. T-bolt clamps solved my problem. Good luck,

Nick

if you can get the pipes bead rolled then have a bead welded on the outside of the piping. zats what I deed

i"M not so sure you should weld all the IC pipe together. You want the pipes to have some degree of "play" or some freedom of movement. But not so much that pipes start blowing loose.

Actually I know that many people in Japan weld, not sure if all, but every japanese car I have seen has welded turbo and IC piping. As far as "freedom of movement" try kicking your exhaust... it'll move.

only downside to welding is the removal of the turbo kit will suck... i dunno about you though, but i like to keep a turbo on my car, as long as it aint blown or the engine aint blown. BUT you get a better seal and never have to worry about silicon hoses cracking or pipes blowing off.

Look at the piping on your greddy kit. I'm not sure if you're using it or not, but if you look at all the piping, you'll see that it's sorta bent-out a little near the ends. That helps prevent the pipes from blowing off. Using t-bolt clamps and tightening the **** out of them will help too. I hear Napa has t-bolt clamps (for diesel trucks) that work great and are a lot cheaper than other companies' clamps.

I was running a consistent 15-18psi and never had a problem with hoses blowing off. Hmm That was the one thing I feared when I first bought my turbo though.

The Exhaust doesn't have pressurized air running through it though!

if you look at a turbo on a new chevy turbo truck, like a 6.5 you will se that they use a bracket setup on there pipes to. may look a little tacky on chrome piping but it would do the job perfect
