Pinging Question
I am having issues with my crappy boost controller not being able to control boost consistantly and with the tune.
My question is, could pinging under WOT be an indication that something (other than the tune (timing/AF)) has been damaged?
I understand that pinging can lead to other major issues, but my car drives and idles great with good vacuum.
Sorry if its Newbish

no one has any idea?
I cant figure out whats causing my car to ping. Just trying to narrow down the possibilities by eliminating internal damage.
i dont want to go and buy a new boost controller and have it still ping if thats the problem.

ping = detonation = bad tune
what are ur af's in boost? normal? does it ping all the time or just in boost?
Could be a bearing, piston slap, a number of things.
more info please.

it only pings at WOT from about 5k on - but i dont stay in it.
it runs fine out of boost, which kinda makes me think that its not anything damaged internally.
my a/f's are normal during boost - he ran it a little rich in the higher RPMS for safety- it was JUST tuned and a bunch of timing was taken out to "cure" the ping on the dyno. (another reason why i think its partly due to a faulty boost controller)

what boost controller? what are your afs in boost exactly? what boost level are u tuned for what are u running?
I would lean toward ur boost controller being the issue combined with the tune
sounds like detonation for sure.

well a/f under boost is about 12 and then slowly goes to about 10.5 at redline.
Im using a Blitz SBC-ID controller set and tuned at 12psi. I believe it is approaching 15psi when pinging because its about at 1bar (14.7psi) on my guage and its hitting boost cut (which is set at 15psi on the blitz and the hondata)
Thanks turbotime for the input

You sure it isnt misfiring and not pinging? 10.5:1 is DAMN rich and could possibly cause a rich misfire or an incomplete burn.
Check your plugs...thats the sure fire wire to see if you are actually detonating.

All i have is the dyno sheet with the air/fuel at the bottom.
i dont know what the timing is up top.
BUT its pinging in the midrange! lol - and i believe the in the midrange, he took the timing back to like 9 degrees.

In reality then, no one here can help you except your tuner.

i realize that, i was just asking if the pinging could be a sign of something internally wrong.
i take it that nothing internally is wrong since its driving perfect under regular driving conditions.
