I still have a "normal" finish Trust IC. I'm just posting this one so people can see an OEM black FMIC. This one sold for $250 on Yahoo Japan.

on the APS (cobb) ones, I think it's a black powdercoat. Looks so sweet and stealth!

 

Doesn't Swain Tech have a special black coating especially for IC's? It's supposed to improve thermal conductivity over bare aluminum, believe it or not.

 

Swain does. Its called Black Body Emitter. Do you rember the Sport Compact Car article on a sr20 swap into a g20? They used the coating on that cars intercooler. I was asking my buddy @ 1320 motorsports about the stuff and he didn't know anything about it so he called Dave Coleman @ SCC to see what was up. Dave Coleman (the enginering editor) said they had not done any testing on it but that he didn't think it helped enough to justify the price tag of the coating. That was just that guys opinion though. I wonder what a temp diferental before and after the coating would look like?

 

You guys are missing the point! Nissan coats/paints them black at the factory so I don't know what they use. I just wanted to post an example of an OEM black FMIC.

I'm in the market for a IC. I don't want to hinder it's ability by painting it black. My first choice is black ... but I definately will not complian if it is bare metal. All ICs are sweet. haha.

But, black IC on a black car is just bad ***!

Actually a black intercooler will increase heat transfer and raise efficiency slightly. I painted my intercooler black on my black CRX. not many people notice it, especially the cops. That's why it got painted. I notice that my intercooler is always cool to the touch unless the car is parked, off and in the blistering Texas sun. I suggest to everyone to paint their intercooler black. kinda make a new trend.

 

what did you use to paint it?

 

I know VHT makes paint that is perfect for Aluminum products!
