passing emission in NY
hey guys i am looking into getting a turbo kit for my rsx type-s the only problem is that my town just went to partial emissions and will be going to full emissions soon. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it (other than move). Thanks for your help. Oh and by the way im in Putnam County NY if that helps.
Go to the Bronx, jerome ave. near the Cross Bronx Expressway and go to any of the shops that do the emission tests. tell them that you don't think it will pass the inspection.
They'll look out for you for the right price

Not for long, it will be impossible to pass any OBD 2 vehicle that cant pass on its own in NY.
The new inspection program is gonna be a bitch. Starts this year.
The machine will now plug into the car, read all the data on the ECU including the VIN, so alot of people are gonna be fucked. If the ecu has been modded, is not the right ECU for the car, or has failed any emissions monitors you fail.
I dont see getting around this one.

They are changing the stickers also, They will be using the ones they have been using upstate and that dealers use. No more of the printed blue ones. Also if DMV shows no record of your car being inspected, they will not renew your reg.

well how about this ...
I know a bunch of people with silver integras that look like mine.. suppose i take their car to the inspection station and hook up MY ecu to their car.. my original obd2 ecu. so basically it would be like someone elses car, posing as mine. would this work? i mean i know my good friend does inspections for me so ill run this past him , but i bet this might be the only way to do it

So does the car actually have to run for emissions? Cuz I'll just bring my stock ECU for scanning purposes, then when it needs to run, I'll just plug in the tuned ECU . . .

car has to be running, and must have completed a complete drive cycle--so you cant just reset your check engine light and have the inspection done--it will fail !!
as far as obd2 vehicle w/ obd1 ecu---not sure of any way to be bypassed yet

you guys are SCREWED!!
you're going to need Neo to break the code on this one!
with all the strict anti-street racing laws in Ny, it doesn't pay to have a fast car registered. just build a track car.

I thought in NY the car has to be inspected in the same county t's reg'ed in?
I doubt they will tap into the OBD port... THat would suck for my room-mates 99 ek with obd1..

this is true you cannot go to another county.
also the car doesnt have to run just be onto the on position but yes you cant reset your codes it will be able to tell you have to run the car for 50 miles for the cleared codes to work
best thing to do is bring the car to the shop with an extra ecu plug in the stock ecu and go.
or since the obd1 cars do not do emissions find a shop that will just hand you a sticker its possible but hard
