Default Painting Intercooler?

As the topic title says, I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to paint my intercooler?

Thanks!

Not if you paint it a certain way. According to the info i found when i searched you only want the paint on the very front edge of the fins. The heat exchange occurs more towards the middle and rear of the core as air passes through it, so a thin layer of radiator coating should not affect heat dissapation. If however you completely clog the fins you'll probably be buggered.

EDIT: I'm assuming this task is being considered to cover up the "Steal Me" effect provided by a FMIC. I can't imagine why you would want to paint the ENTIRE IC.

Yes, that is the only reason I would do it...Im moving to another part of the state next week that has a very high car theft rate (234 hondas were stolen in august and september alone), and my car will be sitting in a fairly empty parking lot all night long 5 days a week while I work so I want to draw as little attention as I can to my car...Besides the Rotas and the slight drop my car looks stock unless you really start looking...

I will probably just stretch some dark panty hose over the intercooler to hid it (someone on this board did that and it hid the intercooler very well).

IF I remeber right the panty hose was on On Point EK's green hatch...I could be wrong though...it was a while back.

Dont paint it, because paint is just paint ..color
Theres no element.

I'm still trying to find the post. There was an element coating out there (forgot the name of the company that makes it), that helps the part coated with it
disperse heat faster. If I can remember, the stuff was used on radiators. Baked on powder coat. It came out black and looked anodized. I might've been to an SE-R site when I saw it ..Im not for sure.

If you could find this i would really appreciate it, as i am planning to paint mine, too, to take away the 'look at me, intercooler' effect.

Hmmmm...I was thinking about this at work today...what if you sent your intercooler to get anodized black? Is there any companies out there that do anodizing? Does anyone see any draw backs to this? It wouldn't add any material to the exterior of the intercooler so I don't see how it could effect the head disapation of the intercooler... anyone have any thougts to this?

Anodized is not that durable.
Chipped black intercooler
Most likely any front mount IC on a street car will get hit by stuff.
Baked on powder coated would be best, but there's only one powder coat I've seen that actually helped disperse heat, and it had a black anodized look to it.

Ive seen the swain tech black coating before when light hits it. It looks nothing like that. Looking at the upper right on the end tank, and the extruded bars on the core...
That IC is most likely spray painted.

will panty hose obstruct airflow? because i'd rather slip a pair of panty hose over the intercooler and be able to take if off. where as painting it, i would have to strip off the paint (pain in the ***) if i change my mind.

What about switching to a water cooler instead of an air? Aren't those just as effective?

yeah it on point ek that wrapped the panty hose around the intercooler, couldn't see it at all, and no it didn't restrict air flow at all.
