Icon2 Overheating

My friend has a turbo gsr in a civic. He can drive the car all day and it wont overheat. But after going under boost a couple of times the car will overheat when he stops. Once he gets moving the temp will go back to normal but if he stops again it will overheat even with normal driving until he lets it cool off for a while. The fan does work and he removed the center section of the thermostat.

thanks

I have a similar issue. A compression check would also tell you if the head gasket was okay...correct?

I did put a shroud on my fan and it helped big time. I was going to make a heat shield and see if that would help.

He has arp head studs. Do you have to retorque them after driving the car for a while or is the one time good?

thanks

how can you test the water pump. also he put a new one on 2 years ago and barely drives the car. There is no fluid on the ground under the car.

Can we get pictures? A good shroud may be in order.

the down pipe is close to the radiator so he wrapped the downpipe and manifold with heat wrap. the dump tube gets close to the radiator also so he is going to heat wrap that also. Also he just got drag radials so he gets more traction than before and not just spinning thu the gears. This should create more heat in the engine bay.

Yeah if the car is running lean it would cause the motor to run hotter. Which can cause the motor to overheat. I would suggest getting a wideband, to see where the A/F ratio at, it should be around 11-12.

Make sure you check the radiator cap, I had a similar problem a while back. I ended up changing the thermostat, waterpump, and headgasket. It ended up being the radiator cap, wasted a lot of time, because I didn't check the little things first. I would pressure test the coolant system and do a leak down test.
