Default Opinions on High Compression Setup

Let me know what you think about this setup. I have a B16a, SRP 10.5:1 Pistons, Eagle H Beam's, The deck is sealed, Motor is Balanced Perfect. Head is mildly worked, but if I can always have bigger valves and more work on it. I'm very seriously thinking about doing a T3/T4 54 trim. Keeping it around 10-12 psi on track 5-8 psi on street. The reason I chose this turbo is that I can buy my friends very cheap. I know the tuning will be very tedious, but I'm all up for it. Thanks for any help, I always ask you guys first...

Get a good engine management system such as Hondata, get some bigger injectors, also the SRP I wouldn't push TOO far they are a Forged piston but are HIGH SILICON pistons so they don't expand as much as JE's regular pistons so they are much quieter when cold, less piston slap. Your CR is kinda high for what I would use the SRP for but I am no expert, some others with experience with SRP or have builtmany motors can elaborate more. Good luck. What are your goals hp wise and times?

Way to high a compression ratio. Look for about 9-1 on the street.

Ok so what are your opinions on a turbo setup for this engine EARL. If any at all. The only I thing wish I wish I would have done in the rebuild is sleeve the block. I was kind of rushed in the rebuild, no time to wait for custom JE's, and ran out of money for sleeves. The origional plan was N2o, but I would rather have a high compression turbo setup. As far as how much power I'm looking for; as much I can get with out blowing it. There aren't near as many high compression setups as low compression...I just want to be a little different..Thanks for your help...

the compression isnt the problem, its your choice of pistons and rods. but since you already have it, make sure you have a good proven tuner. detonation kills motors

Ok, so my next question is how much stress will this setup hold. I just want as much I can get out of this motor with out blowing it. I'll be happy with what I get. I take this car to the track some, but I built it for my self. I would be more satisfied using turbo then N2o. I don't have a problem with N2o, it's just to easy. But, thanks for your advice...

i think you'll be fine just make sure your a/f ratio / timing are in check.

Tuned properly i dont see any probs running 10-12 psi. That would make some nice power along with a quick spool. If anything you always have the option of gettign a thicker headgasket a drop compression a bit. I beleive hks makes a good one

I was thinking about lowering the C/R a bit with a gasket. Coolness...thats the stuff I want to hear. I've already got a HKS BOV, Tial Wastgate w/.9 bar spring, and a HKS FMIC, in just one day (no money spent ). But, like I said, the only goal I have is not to blow it. As long as I'm makin good power its fine with me. Thanks for all your help. And I'll let you know the progress as it goes.

if you plan on running 5-7psi on the streets or anything lower then 13psi then you gotsa order a softer spring

One more thing that I have been pondering. Is this a good turbo for my setup (T3/T4, 54 trim, .48 AR). If not what would you guys suggest. I shift at 8900 RPM so I need something that will make power up that high. Basically if there is a turbo that is beter for me. I want a pretty good power range. I know with the higher compression it will spool a little faster. Anyways, thanks for all your help...

Go with the high compression, it's better to make more motor power and less boost power. You will see good HP numbers with a well tuned motor. Just make sure you get some type of EMS and tuned before you even try and drive it on boost........................................

I am looking at the S200 or AEM EMS. Both are about the same price after it's all said and done. I don't even plan on putting the turbo on until I'm able to tune it like that. I do have a VAFC but I don't think I can get enough fuel to the engine with it. Thanks for the advice.

How well will the SC50 0.63 a/r spool with a B16? Isn't it a bit too big for that setup? I assume it'll be better w/ the 10.5:1 C/R but is that out of its efficiency?

So the SC50 .63AR is a better turbocharger for me then the T3/T4 54 Trim .48AR. The only thing I don't like about the SC50 is the price. I know it's not that bad expensive but I can get the T3/T4 for about $150. It's in perfect condition. Thanks for your help again.

For that price difference (and this is just me) I'd get the $150 turbo and spend the $$$ elsewhere. You can always get the better turbo as an upgrade further on.

Ya I would rather spend the money on a S200 or EMS, and a good tuner.

New question. Should I use a Cometic Head Gasket, or a thicker copper head gasket. I know if I use the copper gasket I will have to O-Ring the head but should I O-Ring it anyway. Thanks for any and all help (again).
