one might think it'd be a bit more dramatic
here are the two bad pistons i pulled from my motor. the motor appears to have blown due to a boost spike from the set 12psi to arouind 16psi. initially i couldnt figure out why the spike might have occured..but recent topics on the board lead me to believe it could have been due to the Drag manifold. The pretty piston on the right is #3 which took the grunt of the damage as the spark plug blew apart and took a joy ride through the combustion process. on the bright side, those bearings look real nice.

Those don't look like factory issue parts, are they? On your hondata, did you ahve the fule of IGN curve mapped at 16psi? I am assuming not.
Does the Hondata have a provision for a boost/fuel/IGN cut of any kind?

im sure the map was fine to infinity and beyond... however i was only using 440cc injectors at stock fuel pressure... so there was enough juice to fuel the instant demand
btw.. those are endyn rollerwave 9.0:1 pistons and crower rods.

Can you give a little more detail about your current/previous setup? Were you still running stock sleeves or was the motor sleeved? I'm looking at building up a new bottom end and would like to stick with stock sleeves due to budget constraints. I'm planning on going with pistons and rods with stock sleeves. I don't plan on running more than 12 psi on 440 injectors.
This seems like it is basically what you were running, any problems prior to this?
thanks
Scott

i'm not 100 percent convinced that you blew up so bad, the damage however fatal it may appear only looks like you had a bunch of spark plug in the cylinder. did you use the proper cold plug? its really too bad because you had some great parts. on a motor tuned well for 12psi, alittle creep here and there shouldnt be that bad, your pistons tops look great! did you set the pistons ring gaps in the proper order (there is a way to offset their position from one another close to the little hole on the oil control rings and scraper ring) did the valves survive the ordeal okay or are they also skewwed? how did the block manage?

yea... id say those seconds det of pics are more like blowing a motor... the first ones are pretty pansy-assed (kinda like how i "blew" mine, cept my pistons looked even better ) if ur gonna go out... at least do it in style

Re: one might think it'd be a bit more dramatic (rtype11)
those two pistons had severe damage on the piston skirts and ring lands, see how ground down they are? the rocking against the wall from detonation was the cause. what does the plug temp have to do with anything btw it was a 7 series?
its really not that bad, pistons are only 100 bucks a piece or so. the block was ok, just a little hone to take care of scuffing. i always install piston rings correctly, 2 ex valves on 3 and 2 intake valves on 4 were bent / mangled

guess ill check my vision, the extent of the damage does not show up on my screen, re the plugs, i thought your plugs blew up in there and got chewed by the pistons.
