One bad ring (compression results) need advise
fully built ls motor , benson block, 9:1 83mm cp's.
1-175
2-120
3-175
4-180
with oil number 2 jumped to about 150.
Redid valve adj. and the car smokes like crazy out of the exhaust and breather (smells very oily).
Now this is what i'm thinking on fixing this. Take the head off and drop the pan. take the piston out and check the walls for scarring. if it all looks good just replace the rings on that piston ONLY.
if the wall was all scarred up then i would think my compression results would be wayyyy worse right?

That sounds about like mine when the pistons hit the walls and scarred them up, screwing up my ring seal. I still had some decent compression, but lots of oil smoke out the exhaust and oily fumes out of the breather. It made 275 WHP on 6.5 PSI though, so it was working okay. I tore it apart after a couple of hundred miles, getting a hone and some new pistons for it soon.
I dropped it off at RLZ and will let them make the call. There was some aluminum transferred to the cylinders that should be able to be cleaned up with a hone, but since we have to get new pistons anyway, they may order them a couple of thousandths over and just go a little bigger.
