Default OMG!

HELP!

Was reprograming my Boost Controller, on 3rd gear reached 6300rpm at only 5psi boost and BAM, Sudden power loss, tons of smoke out the back of my car(too shocked to remember the color), engine shuts down while im driving. I limp over to a parking lot and pop my hood. The upper radiator hose is disconnected coolant splash all over my engine only from the hose, no leaking from the engine. After 10 minutes I start the engine again and vaccum idle is at 15psi with white smoke coming out my exhaust. I attempt the 3 mile drive home, car is overheating and barely driveable. Seems like my headgasket blew but only at 5psi? I did a compession test(B18b with 9.1 pistons) a few weeks ago which read 180/175/165/185.
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance

After I put the hose back on. I tried driving it home it kept overheating and white smoke kept coming out my exhaust.

Damn Exact same thing happened to my old motor. I was running my friend's eclipse going on 5th gear. Then bam all i see is white smoke. The upper radiator hose blew too. white smoke in the tail pipe. Is there milky oil that came out of the breather on the valve cover. I thought I blew my headgasket. I ended up cracking a cylinder sleeve #2. Damn good luck.

I'm thinking it might be headgasket. maybe you should get some head studs while you're replacing it.

I was only running 5psi when it happened. Could it be my piston rings cause my compression test didnt look too good.

I'll take the head off tomarrow. My idle vaccum is only 15psi I'm just hoping it's only a head gasket. I dunno what damage 5psi can do. Hope it's not the piston.

Hey Ray,

How was the car tuned? You keep making it sound like "only 5psi" should never do any damage. If it's not tuned right that's very feasible...

I dont have a compression tester right now. The compression numbers I stated were before this happened. Tuning-Wise im running a DRAG-Like fuel setup. FMU, NOS-inline pump and ignition retarded 1 degree.

There's your problem. Your ignition timing should be around 8-10 degrees, not one degree retarded from stock. Or, did you mean retard one degree per pound of boost?

I don't think it matters at this point. Open the head and take a look.

Been Busy, but I pull the exhaust manifold off and poured water in the radiator and it came out my #4 exhaust. Looked kinda funny actually. I dunno what caused the gasket to go maybe overheating but the water temp was fine the old head gasket was a cheap aftermarket one so maybe. My oil is fine nothing mixed. I'm certain it's the head gasket now so im gonna bring it to a machine shop to check it out and likely resurface it. What else should I replace with the head off? I bought a Honda factory Headgasket. Anything else?

I bought some Skunk2 gears(they were half price) hopefully they dont just look good.

While you have the head off, get some ARP studs.. that's just my preference, although there is a flip side.. If you happen to detonate again, the ARP studs might hold your head down so tight that more damage can be done to your head while detonating, instead of just letting the head pop up and not take on all the force.
