If its already internally gated, you need to seal that hole. If you planning on putting an external wastegate, then you need to remove internal gate...

I have seen many of my Japanese friends do this mod. Yes, you will gain power and the turbo will spool faster. A lot of the guys with OEM and aftermarket internal w/g turbos use this setup for cheap performance. As long as this flange comes AFTER the flapper valve there will not be any problems.
Good luck

This isn't a dsm turbo. The internal WG is not part of the turbine housing so you cant just leave that hole open unless you want a massive leak before the turbine. you could attach an external WG to that hole and it would work great
most T3s that have an internal WG have a 3 bolt outlet, like so
the flange you have is to block off the internal WG and run an external off of the manifold. this is what the turbine that would accept your 5 bolt flange would look like.
see, no internal WG, just a hole.

Re: (dustin)
he deos. the flange on top was jsut a representation
racepak you can run your turbo open wastegate no problem. the design has a divided wall which works well. should help in preventing boost creep etcc.
heres his old post
and a picture of his turbo

Re: (project dc2)
Ah. How far does the actuator travel? It's going to hit the flange. Most setups like this use a hollowed-out extender ... i.e what bailhatch posted.

Re: (dustin)
huh thats an odd one, guess i was wrong. you can cut a recess in the back of the 5 bolt flange if its 1/2" it will work fine. my old t25 was like that worked great. That's a T3 for sure?

a friend of mine who was sponsored by bfg a few years back made 1200+rwhp on open wastegates on his mustang.

Re: (RACEPAK)
Yes, your configuration is just an odd one. Definately smaller than a T3, though it has the T3 flanges. Kinda weird. Leaving the wastegate hole open is fine, though, besides the ear-splitting noise.
