I put mine on the far side of the oil pan (under the timing belt side pointing forward and angled up) but have seen them on the front of the pan also. Get it welded on..you won't regret it.

the top part is what you have in your sinks at home draining... as long as point A is higher than point B, you are fine, it will still drain, that's how your sink works

you ask why? see that red dotted line, once water fills up to that red line in the "U" shaped part, from physics and gravity, more water poured into the inlet will push it passed the "U" shaped and drain. the water will never go higher than the red dotted line in the inlet

same things goes for the oil line, people freak out and scream their dog's name out when they see the fitting on the oil pan is not tottally down, it doesn't need it be, you can have it go zig zagging, as long as point on your turbo OUT is H I G H E R than the point on the oil pan... it will drain.

the pic of the oil return i drew is how my oil return is, you don't see my complaining about turbo's smoking or "i blew my seals"

boosted for over 1 month.

AND MY OIL LEVEL IS THE SAME, i didn't burn anything.

hehe i should get better pics but seriously, turbo is fine and no oil burned.. no smoke...

think.. if the turbo is not draining then i would get smoke like hell and oil in my charge pipes, downpipe and lower oil level... eventually the turbo will die.. obviously nothing has happened so it works... i drive my car hard.... like boosting 50 times a day..

Yeah, well, not really. Your turbo fill with oil at over 30 PSI typically, and drains at 0 PSI. Thing is, it will back up into A before spilling much into B, and that's what you don't want. Once it backs up into A, it leaks past the seals and puff puff puff....hello, how much do you guys charge to rebuild a turbo?

You want the oil to be consinuosly able to drip drain from the turbo without having to be pushed out. If it's getting pushed that means you're building pressure, which is no good.
