which oil after break in? d16
hey guys,
so i'm about to finish my breakin with my d16,
i'v used valvoline premium conventional 10 40 with a breakin additive,
my oil pressure is gr8. but it might be a bit low at idle when it warms up,
i'm using a moroso 5.5l pan,
i'm thinking about these options:
valvoline vr1 5w 50
valvoline vr1 20w 50
or maby valvoline roush 10w 40?
or even something else?
thanks

its all preference. The weight should be determined by bearing clearance. I use to be castrol Gtx 10w-30 guy. I now use Valvoline Vr1 non-systhetic race oil 10w-30. This was recommended by my tuner. He also uses motul but its so much money and i prefer non-synthetic since i change my oil so frequently

it is preferance everyone will tell u something different, i run royal purple because i prefer synthetic and its way cheaper than ams or even mobil 1 but if money was no object ams would be my oil of choice. i always ran motul semi synth in my bike and it kicked *** but im definately willing to pay the difference when sitting on a crotch rocket with an engine between my legs consistenly seeing 14000 rpm lol

Most 15w-40's will be fine, optimally something that lists CI-4 (CJ-4 = not special). Rotella-T, or Rotella-T6 if you want synthetic. Most of those oils are for big turbo diesels, and the CI-4 spec still allows for extra zinc/zddp. CJ-4 is just for emissions. D16's have lower pressure than B-series, especially if you have looser bearing specs.

i use conventional castrol 10w-40. been doing it for close to 10 years never had an oil pressure issue. last year at nhra supernationals walking through the pit area talking to some of the mechanics after racing stopped i noticed some of the bigger named teams using conventional 70 weight oils.
ive heard rumors about rotella frothing and not holding up at real high rpms, similar to what ive heard about lucas oil stabilizer. can anyone put truth to that?
