Hey guys I am looking to turbo my 99 civic si but dont want to convert from obd2b to obd1.
Are there any other options besides an FMU?
Boost will be fairly low. 10 Psi MAX but most likely 8 or 6.

I don't think that is the case, especially when some people need to pass inspection with it. I am not sure if you can pass OBDII inspection atleast in Pa with an EMS when they plug in.
Maybe you can look into emanage or something like that.

Hey, if it is your only option. **** I don't ever use emanage, but If its done right and conservative it can work. But I would rather see him convert to OBD1 than run AEM. And I have AEM in my car, so I do have experience with it.
If he wants to stay legal, then try to give him a suggestion that keeps the stock ecu.

I don't see why an AEM box would enable a car to not pass inspection... how many visual inspections rip off the kick panel and such? i'd be more worried about the turbo hanging of the head...

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! I wish people would listen. E-NonManage and the VAFC/Vtec hack are not good tuning tools!!! If you are going to spend money building something at least protect your investment with some good engine management!!!!
I'll post some pics of engines that I have rebuilt that thought they had good engine management!!!!

I second the reasons for not using them, I am honestly fully against them when all possible.
Also I am not talking about a VISUAL inspection. We have to find out the emissions for his particular state. Most states have to actually plug into the diagnostics port, atleast I think that is how it works. But if he is able to pass with an EMS, by all means get it.

I've had really bad problems with the aem also, usually i convert them to obd-1 unless the customer absolutely wants the aem. On second hand the weve done a couple k series nissan and mk2 with the greddy emange ultimate and had good luck with them.
Uhh.. if he can't have an OBDI ECU due to e-check, then he's not going to be able to have the AEM. AEM isn't just an OBD2 ECU, it's a complete standalone, and has nothing to do with the Honda ECU. As someone stated before, the reason that people have to keep OBD2 is because the techs plug into the Diagnostics port. THE AEM DOESN'T HAVE THIS.
In all honesty, if you MUST keep the OBD2 ECU, I'd go with the new Emanage. And for those of you who say it's just junk, it's just because you don't know how to tune. Yes, a chipped OBDI ECU w/ Crome will have a lot more flexibility, but there's no doubt that someone can make a lot of power on another form of engine management.

Why not you change back to the stock ecu and injectors when he has a e-check? Then he can run whatever engine management he wants.

Thanks for all the replies guys. The main reasons for wanting to stay OBD II is for cost and emission/diagnostic/ect checks.
Turns out its probably cheaper to just convert to OBD I and get neptune or another similar program.
Passing inspections should be fine as my friend owns a shop that does inspections.
Now if i go to OBDI i have a couple of questions. I know on my car if theres a check engine light or whatever they can plug into the port and pull up the code. On an OBDI car do you pull a check engine light the same way? I know they have the OBDII scan tools but do they make an OBDI tool? Besides the fact of having a different ECU that you can do more with what are the main differences? Thanks

I thought the thread was asking what to tune with that keeps the car OBDII?
May I suggest the "Perfect Power SMT6".
Sure, it is similar to the eManage and the SAFC in that it does nothing more than modify sensor signals before sending them to the ECU. But the SMT6 does 2 things vitally different: One, it alters ignition timing by delaying or advancing the signal to the ECU, and two, it can alter the AFR safely by changing the output of the lambda sensor! According to things I have read, it can even utilize a wideband input (from a controller) and generate the proper narrowband signal to keep the engine happy. This is a table-controlled function, not just a voltage divider. Thus it can generate the properly erratic signal the ECU expects.

You can still check codes by jumping the two wire service connector under your dash, by the glovebox. The main differences between the two are the way that they deal with sensors and how much extra crap thre is on an OBD2 ecu. The OBD2 ecu is a lot more complex system, you can tell by looking at how many ecu codes there are for an OBD2 car. That is one reason why they have scan tools, it tells you exactly where the problem lies.
If you don't have any problems passing inspection, I would definitley convert to OBD1 and run crome or whatever you prefer really. Crome would most likely be cheapest.
Also shoot me a PM if you need any of the conversion parts.

I think E-manage can work, and have used it in CALIFORNIA.. If I can pass there, I can pass ANYWHERE!!!

Just find a friend with the same car as you and plug it into the State Inspection Diagnostic machine when you perform the test. Then run whatever engine management you want.

Of course anything piggy back is junk after you have used a standalone like AEM.. but Emanage has its purposes.

I understand how you can pull the code by jumping the service connector but I am wondering how would they do it if you brought it to honda? Just curious if they would be shoving a paper clip in there too. lol

Why don't you give some experiences with it or shutup. It works I'm using it and it works well. Yes its not the best out there but for moderate hp gains it works well. For some people a $15,000 motor build and turbo setup is just not practical. But If you want to use stock obdII setup why not. I can recommend it with some experience. (not just.... it sucks.)
If it is tuned and used properly on a dyno and not some Joe Blow doing rev tunes it works.

They would probably use a scantool if you ever took it to honda. But since your car would be turboed and what not anyway, I highly doubt they would even look at it.

I will give some pics of engines that had e-manage. other than that I will let you know how the next engine goes. I just got a customer that wants to use e-manage on his build so "SAVE" a little money. just don't get it he is going to put all his money in the engine build which is great but wants to peice together a "CHEAP" turbo set up and a cheap engine management so he can put on a body
kit!!
