Default O2 sensor... need it or swap it for a WB sensor ?

Ok when I tuned my car 2 months ago my tuner find that my 02 sensor was dead ( damn C16...). So he told me that with my AEM EMS I dont need it that much and it will be easy to tune the car without it. He told me that many people with a setup like mine run without the 02 sensor... maybe for a race car lol

But now my car do many weird thing especially when I start it when he is cold ... looks like the warm up table doesnt work anymore or something like this... usualy a car would go at 1500rpm and come down to 1000rpm when he gets hot...

So anyway I have to work on this issue... and bring the car back to my tuner cuz I want my car to run as close to a normal car that I can.

Should I get a wideband instead of buying a new o2 sensor ? Could it be plugged to my AEM EMS to get me a more precise mixture and let me have a display in my car to always be sure that all is okay at the same time ?

Im a big 0 when it come to electronics so please try good solution.

Thanks for the help !

Mat

I would get a wideband if I were you. I know you have a lot invested so a inexpensive unit like PLX would be pretty good. You could also buy the AEM EUGO wideband, which is a little more money.

The AEM EMS is a very capable computer. I would put money on it that you could run a wideband as your narrowband for closed loop fueling.

Do it.

ok thanks for the help... so this mean ( in a simple language lol ) that the WB would always try to get the mixture I want even if its hot or cold compare to the map im running now that is always on the same mixture... so if its cold I can be lean by exemple ?

Most widebands have an out put for narrow band and wideband out put. So you could run either one to the aem...im guessing. I've never messed with aem ems. But I know plx and innovative have both kinds of outputs to act as a wideband out put or simulate a narrow band.

Im not sure if you are farmiliar but

Open loop- your computer uses inputs from MAP and RPM, looks at the tuned map you have in your EMS and interpolates how much fuel to spit out for each cycle.

Closed loop- your computer uses inputs from MAP and RPM, looks at the target air/fuel ratio map you have in your EMS and interpolates what the target fuel is. After that it reads your o2 sensor to see how far off you are from your target. Based on how far off you are it will make a % correction.

Just about every car has a narrowband o2 sensor and a narrowbands accuracy range is only good around stoich (14.7:1). So most factory cars will only use closed loop when the car should be running around 14.7:1. (like a very low load situation or idle.)

You can use the AEM EMS and Wideband to run a sort of "auto-tune" where it will make % adjustments according to how lean/rich you are running and your target A/F for that load/rpm. I wouldnt do that method myself. You already know your car runs well, so get the wideband and just have an in cabin gauge so you can make sure things dont get dangerous. If for some reason your car really needs a quick fuel trimming, its only a quick COM port away.

You can get a nice in cabin sensor from aem for 450, and plx for 300, small price for good insurance.

Let me know if that didnt make sense

well for now all this is really hard to understand cuz I never messed in the AEM EMS by myself that much so im sure when I will try, all this will make sense !

Im still open open for more help and opinion !

yes yes yes, its a great thing to have, and even better with the EMS. You can tell if your tune is good in different temps + weather. You can also set target A/F at different loads. Its great to get 35 MPG on an 11 sec car.

yup like you said its cool to get a good gas mileage on a fast car... sometimes my friends ask me if my car take a lot of gas and I told them just like a stock Civic if you are cruising on the highway !
