Default Is this normal???

I just got my forged pistons in and when i first start it up when the motor is cold it makes a knocking noise. The shop that put everything in said that with forged pistons "piston slap" is normal with untill they heat up and expand. The noise does quiet down once the motor is warm. Just wondering if this is true or not. Also how long should i break the motor in before i can really get on it. They told me i should for at least three thousand miles so the the rings seat properly, but this seems like along time.

piston slap is compleatly normal with forged pistons. and as for the break in i would give it 1000 miles or so. but you should probably listen to your shop!
