Default Non Honda: Project EVO

One of our latest projects has been our Shop car which is an 04 EVO.
Still in prototype process but Let us know what you think of the setup.
Still have lots to add to the project as well as some things to fabricate to complete the current stuff......

Knife Manifold
PTE gt30r ball bearing turbo
44mm tial WG
HKS 272,264 cams
3" dp
full 3" Knife Catback
Exedy Twin Disk clutch
not sure on the I/C setup going on it yet.
hoping to make a good 400 whp on pump gas
Car Has AEM on it at the time.
I believe its being swapped out for an Autronic setup in the next few days.

Its not as bad as it looks in these pics.
There is no fan there either. It comes factory with a pusher fan on the front.

looking good. those EVOs with all the options are like sticking 15lbs of $hit in a 5lb bag .

this car came in stock, with a Motec...
the stock turbo put down 336whp, spiking 22lbs, dropping to 20lbs.

new setup:
PeakBoost exhaust manifold
44mm Tial wastegate
gt30/37R
still stock engine(no cams), made 388whp on a poor tune, holding 20lbs steadily.
i dont think 400whp is an out of reach number for this setup on pump gas.

I believe both the AEM & Autronic eliminate the factory MAF system on the Evo. With the AEM, a seperate MAP & IAT sensor is needed and has to be wired. In comparison, the Autronic has it's own built in pressure sensor and I believe IAT is interpolated.

But, in short...Autronic does kick ***.

the evo's iat is built into the mafs, if you take it out you loose the iat, gota add an external iat.

i dont know how you can say autotronic is better than the ems. feature for feature the ems does alot more than autotronic. i guess its all in what you know.. both systems tuned properly will get you the same end result

oh.. and why not just stick some hks cams and a good aftermarket intake manifold on there... 400hp at the wheels w/the stock exh manifold and turbo

the car does have HKS cams already, forgot to mention them. (264,272)
The AEM deal was wierd. We messed with it for a day or so, and keep having to go back with other versions of the software, apparently certain ones dont work well with this and that.
On top of that It seems alot of people are having problems with a basic AEM setup right around 400hp from what I have been told. I cant back that claim up, i have no idea.
We are actually going to give the AEM one more shot as The autronic hasnt shown up yet.
We converted to a 3 bar with the external IAT, so well see what works....

i have done quite a few evos in the low 300's (basicly stock.. dp/exhaust and got rid of the maf) and a couple in the upper 300's (all the above with some hks cams)

im working on a car right now that has the buschur 500something turbo on it.. not impressed at all so far... i only have about an hour in it though.

90% of the problems with the ems are caused by shitty installs and/or people that dont know what they are doing.

what kinda problems are you having... i havent had any problems with v1.03 or v1.11 on any of the evo's i have done.

hit me up on PM if you need some help w/it

Are you guys using 272 intake/264 exhaust HKS cams? If so, what's the advantage with them compared to 264 intake/272 exhaust HKS cams?

That exhaust mani looks great btw!

Well Originally The car was on the Stock ECU and they seem to Idle better.
The 264 is supposed to move the torque curve down and Make more usuable power on the street.

I would have rather gone with the 272s all around and a gt35... but thats just me
