Default newbie turbo question

if the intercooler pipes go to the throttle body, where does the intake go? can you have a cold air intake with a turbo intercooler? sorry for such a noob question.

your "intake" pipe looks like a CAI and is routed to one end of your intercooler. more piping is routed from the other end of the intercooler to the compressor outlet on the turbo. so air goes from your turbo, through the piping, through your intercooler, through more piping, through your "intake" and to the throttle body. hth.

this is a newb question huh...anyways, yeah, i got mines cold air with intercool. works pretty good, turbo sounds louder too. the cold air intake pipe goes on the turbo housing, the grey part (snail) and find its way outside of the engine bay for cold air.

thats just waiting for water to get sucked into...if you have a front mount.. it shoudlnt really matter.. spray water on the intercooler instead to drop the charge temps

so with a front mount intercooler, you don't need a CAI? i don't get it. i thought that one end of the turbo gets connected to the downpipe, and the other end of the turbo gets connected to the intercooler, which is then connected to the throttle body, right? sorry again, i'm still learning when it comes to turbos.

I think a nice diagram would help you out a lot.

99% of the turbo guys on here (1% are a screen mesh and pantie hose users) add a filter to the compressor side of the turbo. That is essentially your intake per say. When the wheel is spinning it is sucking air into it, and we want to make sure no **** is in there (water, bugs, etc) to damage the blades. I mean if your asking can u run a "cold air intake" i GUESS you could, but why. That's why you have an intercooler, to cool the intake temps. The air you are sucking up is only going to get heated by the turbo anyways (remember the turbo absorbs A LOT of heat, thats why most turbo cars aren't that loud compared to N/A cars).

Here a pic of my old greddy "intake", its the mushroom looking filter ..Hope this helps. Try and read that turbo stuff on the web, I think its pretty good.

Top view

See the pipes as they go into the turbo. The other side, (HOT) goes to your exhaust system.
