Need some help regarding SLICKS
Hello everybody. I was wondering if you guys could help me out on choosing the optimal slick and wheel combo for my car. I plan on making 300whp in a DC chassis. I will be running a GSR Tranny with a QUIAFE LSD along with an Action 2MS clutch and STOCK Axles.
There is a local selling 22" slicks mounted on some 15" sparco wheels. I wasn't sure if these were too small for my application. Its a good deal though so I was wondering whether or not to pick these up.
I tried searching but I couldn't find a definate answer. Some people said 24" was too tall and caused alot of breakage while others were saying that 22" is too short/small.
I was also concerned about a few things regardless of which size and wheel combo I choose. How do I know how much pressure to run in the tires? Do you guys have any tips on launching it at the track? I'm hoping not to break anything(axles) while at the strip. By the way, I'm running stock axles because I cant afford to get upgraded ones at the moment.
If anybody could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. You can reply here, PM me, or even email me.
Thanks in advance.
**I don't know if this is the correct section to post this in. I was thinking either Drag Racing or Forced Induction. So I decided to try here. If this is in the wrong place, I'm sorry and please move it.

Re: Need some help regarding SLICKS (chubz0r)
As far as launching you need to preload if you don't want to break axles/transmision.
slick size I may be wrong or not agreed with but I base it off of what my trap speed is in fourth and the desired rpms i want to be at when passing through the traps. For my b16a tranny 24.5 would be desireable with upper 300-low 400whp. I just dont want to shift into 5th in the 1/4.
Bigger the slick the more chance you run on breaking so the choice is yours...

Re: Need some help regarding SLICKS (bootlegcivic)
Preloading is using the ebrake to hold me while i hold the clutch right at the catching point right?
Hmm. So are you implying that i get taller slicks? Well I can always get bigger ones later on, its just that these seem like a good deal. 350obo for 22" slicks mounted on 15" sparcos. What do you guys think?
Or should I just save up and get some lensos with 24" slicks?
Any more tips about launching, pressure, etc?
Thanks!

Yeah you're right about the preloading.
I saw a thread on here some company selling slicks with lensos for $500 everything brand new. It was a pre drag season deal I'll try to find it.
Go 24's though

for the power that you are going to be making go with 24.5 or 25's. You will overpower 22's. Plenty of people on here are making close to 600hp running stock axles on 24.5's or 25's and even 26's.
As far as air pressure that depends on a lot of different factors. Most people probably run anywhere in between 5-7psi of air. It depends on the maker of you slick and the tire compound. Track temp, prep work. How much of a burn out you are doing weather condition and your Hp level

I think I'm going to save up money and just go with Lensos and 24.5" slicks. Is there any specific brand of slick/tire you guys recommend? Or are they all around good?

Re: (D@nnY)
Alright, Im gonna go with 24.5 m&h's. Thanks for the help everyone.
Anymore tips? How do i go about doing my burnouts? I heard 2nd gear is good if you have the power. I think ill have the power for 2nd gear. Do i just roll through the waterbox, pull the ebrake, put clutch in and 2nd gear, and dump it off the 2step rev limit?

Danny what do you mean by that? I dont want to toast my clutch! How do you do your burnouts/launches?

Preloading off the line is really hard on the clutch. It will wear out faster, once that clutch gets hot and glazes over the clutch will need to be replaced. What I do is bounce the rpms between 6k-7k and hold the clutch just a hair before the grabbing point. Then I just slip the clutch out. I pulled a 1.82 60' using this technique on my integra (350whp).
