Need opinions on which muffler to go with
All right everyone, when I first did my turbo build, I upgraded the exhaust to a full 3" setup. Went with a 3" from spoolinfab performance, scored a midpipe by Thermal from the classifieds and then my buddy and I created this masterpiece of an axleback that consists of a 304 Stainless pie cuts and mated to a Buddyclub Spec III 3" universal exhaust.

Now it's been about 5 months, if that, since this thing has been on and I have been pulled over 8 times for an illegal exhaust. For some reason all has been verbal warnings.
But it's getting really old now, and i'm getting too old for this. I didnt go with a magnaflow oval or something because I really didnt want to put any magnaflow part on my car. But it seems I have to bite the bullet. I need to switch to an oval muffler so it's not as eye catching and noisy to the cops.
I need some recommendations for an oval muffler that will still be free flowing but obviously quieter than the Buddyclub can. I was looking at the Vibrant Performance 1147

but i dont know about them too much because I've always known Vibrant to be a fabrication parts company and not an exhaust company. What else should I look at? Borla?

Oh and it's no longer polished and I still get pulled over, so it has to be the noise

Are you getting pulled over just because it's a bright shiny muffler or is it due to the fact it's that loud? I thought Flo was fairly laid back on things like that.

Just wanted to say the car looks great in the 2nd pic, big fan there. Also, I know the pain of being pulled over for an exhaust, it's annoying. So far I've been issued one ticket each of these past 2 years. Hopefully I don't get anymore.
if its for noise you need to run two mufflers on the car. My setup is as follows
Kteller piping kit
Magnaflow 5"x18" round muffler in the mid pipe (muffler not resonator)
Magnaflow 18" Oval muffler at the rear.
both mufflers are flow through 3"
My car at WOT from the exhaust is as quiet as an SRT4 neon with stock exhaust, I have no cat on the car and its turbo. The dump tube on the other hand is loud but its small diameter tube so its not super loud and boost pressure holds fine. Larger dump tube will have same effect as larger exhaust and be louder. if you can hold steady boost pressure with smaller tubing then do so

I've been threw that stage open downpipe blah blah blah...if there's anybody over the noise its me trust me...its not "ungodly" loud lol I don't drive like a jackass..ill try to get a vid
agreed there piping kits are nicer but at the time its what i found and could afford so i went with it. I did that to replace my thermal exhaust that i kept getting pulled over with. it was way to loud for me. Maybe when i was 20 it would have been cool but i like quieter now that im getting older lol
vibrant has to be the nicest looking flat black oval muffler IMO , ive used them on 2 cars. They have a very stealth look , but since its straight through , its still somewhat loud. I use 2 straight through resonators along with it to quiet the car down.
btw - nice wheels , what kind/size/offset r they ? .. and what size tire ? .. any rubbing ? ( sorry for off topic )

I have a full 3" exhaust on my turbo EK right now. It consists of a Virbrant 3" high flow cat, vibrant 3" resonator, and Vibrant 3" stealth muffler. My exhaust was loud when I didn't have my turbo on, but once the turbo was on, it definitely quieted down. I kept the cat on because of emissions and it's a lot quieter than straight through.
I bought one quite a few years ago for my EK coupe. Worked great.
I bought one recently for my EK 4 door. The bends were COMPLETELY wrong. I had to modify the whole entire thing. Where the exhaust does the S curve they had two 45* bends instead of two 90* bends, which basically meant I had to scrap that piece and purchase two 90s.
The metal you get it also crappy and has really nasty bending die marks on it. Not that it matters to most people, but it did for me.
All in all, should have just bought straight pipe and a few bends and did the rest myself.

Are you NA or turbo? JW. NA is hard to quiet down with 3 in
varex muffler like a e cut out with less hassles.

From above, It depends where in Florida you are and if you are around car shows. I have seen then pop everyone over a curtain noise level leaving the place.
Also, whats wrong with Magnaflow mufflers? I have two round mufflers that comes back to a 3" tip so its 3" all the way from the turbo out the back. Its really quiet when I'm cruising but when I get on it and dump tube opens its loud a real good balance.

3" downpipe with no cat and 3" stainless exhaust with magnaflow round under the car and magnaflow oval at the rear. It's about as quiet as you're going to get really. You can get them in natural finish or polished if you like bling. I painted mine satin black. You can't go wrong for the money. I personally know 4 people other then myself running them and they've held up great for all of us.
Considering that those Vibrants aren't baffled in any way. I agree. I have one on an old daily and can't stand it. Had to put an additional muffler on it.
