Default Need Help with Turbo Setup (Newbie Question)

After reading about all the BOv Intercooler, power ect ect ect I am really now considering turbo...

I have a 97 JDM Itr Motor

I don;t know much bout turbo's and although I have read about all these gadgets that you need I have no clue what to do.. Can you please tell me what I need to make this turbo complete and safe for my engine...

My stock compression is 11:1 I don;t really want to lower my comp b/c I have no intention of boosting it more then 5.5 ( N so I think) I have also read that The ITR motors when you boost it at 5-6 psi you make more hp then an LS at 10psi. Please cprrect me if I am wrong...

So all in all I am really looking forward into getting all the stuff Ineed for a turbo before installing one... Including all the parts that will ensure safety to my motor.

By the way is it cheaper to go custom Turbo kit or justa package deal?

Thanks Once Again

If you're having to ask this question you should probably get a kit, or pay a shop to put together a custom setup for you if you don't want a pre-packaged everybody gets the same thing kit. My .02

Why are you turbocharging a motor that have such high compression? I think it's a waste of money.
Without lowering the compression you probably can't boost 5.5 with a safe margin.
Even you did turbocharged at 5.5 with safe net you probably can't beat a JDM ITR all motor with all the nice upgraded cams and valve train. I would just build the valve train and rev it to 10000 rpm and call it a day. Or, sell the motor for more money and do a GSR turbo with the right internal.

i dunno what your talkin bout bro, about having a JDM ITR all motor being able to beat a turbo itr motor...

From what I have read is that even tho the itr's compression is high but if i was to boost at the lowest setting 5 lbs i'd be making more hp then an ls boosting at 10lbs.

correct me if i am wrong... in regards to selling an engine i can;t i'm not willing to take it out and sell it, it's also serves as a purpose for show points also...

My main question is I would just like to have more understanding of turbos. I see a lot of people custom building one but does it save you that much more money then to say buying a drag 3 kit... I am really interested in boosting... It's just i have no understanding of what it needs and it's components. I have gone back to old posts and read but there seems to be little information... UNless you can provide me the link.

Thanks for your help.

component list is on importparts.com for the drag kits. your compression is too low and with the valvetrain unmodified you've got some work to do if you want that NA power. you could run a turbo, but you'd prolly have to pull more timing than a US itr.
