Default need help on intercooler piping....

hey guys,

this is my first time post in here...I have been talking to Art though..great knowledge...

I just bought a T3/4e, deltagate(9psi) ( it's for sale..I am getting tial), and a HKS SS BOV...

I am still looking for either a drag or rev-hard manifold for my B18C1

my question is, I am running one piece AEM CAI now, and I was thinking once I get an intercooler, can I just fab the AEM to be an IC piping?, I mean cutting it by the filter area and use a elbow pipe(mandrell) to extent it to the intercooler outlet....

has anyone ever done this before...., how effective is this ? I know AEM is good at dissipating heat with its creamic coating, but how effective it would be for a turbo setup..??

thanks

You can buy just piping. I believe you can order DRAG piping from importparts.com or f-max piping from mmrusa.com for pretty cheap. You can get revhard piping directly from revhard. And it will fit perfect. It should cost around $250.

I would imagine the AEM piping would work..but its not very strong. I think you would have a hard time mounting a bov on the side...its just not stroung enough.

I am also not sure about the piping size of the AEM. Most intercooler piping is 2" from the turbo to the intercooler and 2.5" from the intercooler to the throttle body.

Like i said, drag, revhard, or f-max piping will come complete from turbo -> intercooler -> throttle body and is pretty cheap and will fit perfect.

Umm
I cant comment on the whole it will fit perfectly aspect because i know for the set up im planning i believe DRAG and what not piping wont fit unless it was custom done ....heheh you'll see why.
But if you set it up just like the company you order the pipes from it should fit perfectly, maybe a snip here and there, but i would assume they would work if you had a FMIC about the same size and what not.

Secondly, ceramic coatings insulate....cause when they ceramic coat a header it helps keep the exhaust gasses not and reduce under hood temp, not spread the heat and make under the hood be even hotter...yeah , so the AEM tubing would be a insulation barrier , not a heat dissapater. (if thats a word)

yes stan, you can use an aem cai as intercooler piping. Just make sure you seal up the hole where the breather line goes.
