N/A or Boost?
I'm kinda new to this and just got into honda game. I was wondering if anybody can help me out. I been "researching" for hours. Not really finding answers by what I'm actually searching for.
I have 97 Integra LS and It was all (start from scratch) *Hate HALF *** JOB* but anyways.. I'm thinking to boost my Integra, but not quite sure how to to start and what to do.
Some friends told me I can boost and some told me I can't. I hate hearing different opinions, advices, or point of views. I rather to hear same thing from each different person.
Right now, I just bought rebuilt vtec motor couple months ago from a friend. (kinda regret it since there were no paperwork/info about the motor !!) only know a few... such a noob since I'm a rookie buying my first car and swap motor. I sold my B18B1 Ls motor (should've kept it) and (which it was easier to boost) Just found out about that. But it has high mileages.
Anybody can help me out to see if it's safe to boost my motor. Here is what I have:
Rebuilt Vtec motor 14,xxx
B16a Type R (head)
B18c1 GSR (block)
Buddy Club Stage 3+ cams w/STR cam gears
I was told turbo love high compression/low boost set up. Also can turbo any motor with just a good tune? Is that true?
Hope I can get a good feedback or advices. Thanks

thats true, it just needs a good tune.
stock b series blocks can handle 300whp no problem with a good tune
is that motor just stock rebuilt? not higher comp pistons or anything
ive turboed my 200k+ miles lsvtec 266whp@ 8psi

Yes you can turbo it. Id maybe look into different cams. How would an ls be easier to boost then a poormans r? It would be the same thing. Yes you need a GOOD tune and an EMS. Dont throw a turbo kit on then go drive down the street before getting a tune. Also don't try turboing your car with cheap parts. Turbo is also by not any means cheap look into paying 3000+ after said and done with everything
i agree with Dc4LsTeG no cheap parts u need something that can hold up to what u want and not be broken in 3 weeks if your on a tight budget the Borg Warner S series are your best bang for the buck, the spool faster than the Garrett T series so that would most likely your best bet
Boost is freakin awesome, but I would highly highly highly recommend running that vtec motor na for a while. Enough time to feel knowledgeable and comfortable with honda motors and different turbo set ups. I was in your same position. New to hondas and all I wanted was power, I should of took a deep breath and took baby steps......I promise there is no rush and when you get there you will appreciate and enjoy it more. I promise.
The hardest part is finding a honda dude you could trust and who is knowledgeable. The honda scene is full of men with questionable character, its sad to say but about 75% of people I ran into with hondas are **** bags. Once you find someone trust worthy, even though he charges you double, pay for it. Do it right ONCE.

I believe it's just stock rebuilt with high cams.

your platform is perfect to boost man, look into a go autoworks kit and find a good tuner, keep it under 330 if ur still stock and want decent reliability.
btw 300-500 is a massive gap your goal should be like 300-350 or 350-400 a 200 hp gap is not realistic, it would require 2 totally different setups for 300 to 500

"Perfect to boost?" I hope I can !! lol So keep it under 300 to 350 is the safest way to do it?
i personally wouldnt go past 330, but there is lots of guys that push more on a stock block, dantamparacer was making 488hp before he snapped a rod literally in half. sure it'll handle it but the question is for how many pulls. and yes the usdm gsr is one of the safest to boost.
IMO, before even thinking about going turbo or not. By the sounds of it, that motor has not been up and running in your car yet? If thats the case and you personally did not build it, again IMO I would first put the motor in your car and get it up and running, checking for rod knocks, bad valves, leaks, low compression in a cylinder...ect. If you dont have any sort of a way of knowing its in good condition or not thats a good place to start. You wouldnt really want to build an entire turbo setup around a motor just to find out that you need to tear it back down and start from scratch.

Ok, sorry for trying to help your a$$. Next time you "dont" want opinions, DONT POST A QUESTION ON A FORUM! Below is your original post. SHOW me where it is that you quoted ANYWHERE that says it is up and running???

Also, where in my first post did you read that I said "you" built it??? You obviously have NOT done your research as you have put it. Because if you did, you wouldn't be buying motors that others put together, not knowing if you can turbo them and then not wanting opinions but yet still posting a question on a public forum to get opinions.
All I was trying to do was help you save some time down the road if the motor wasnt healthy. Sorry, what did you want me to say? Sure the motors probably fine but who cares and only tune with an FMU and you will be good to go!
