Re: Are my pistons trash???? (booscivic)
Ouch, looks like some Wiseco pistons having issues with the valve reliefs huh? I guess any pistons with detonation has issues in "thin" spots of the piston when the tune if off a bit.
Kinda hard to see, but if there is no crack in the walls and the ring lands have not lifted, you probably can polish down the affected areas and try to re-run them.

well without the proper tuning, yes.....
OP. . sucks to hear that man! think i sold you an intercooler a while back?
well as long as the cylinder walls didn't get scratched, it's not that bad!!

i would have to say, replace the pistons.

lol, if it was a cp it would have split in half.

Well, according to the shop I bought mine from, Wiseco is being lazy and isnt finish deburring the pistons. When I got mine, some of those reliefs were more broken through than others, which is why the shop had to explain this to me... So that thin area where the valve relief meets the wall is supposed to be removed before you install em.
According to what I've been told, buzz the junk off and go at it again.

Maybe with you tuning?
BTW, in the top picture is the coating totally flaking off?

lmao, ohhh its that a soft spot that i touched?
I dont think im the only person who has ever had this problem with cp pistons. I have had this problem once with a set of 81mm piston and a car i was tuning and i have also fixxed a couple engine that have come into my shop with the same issue. Replaced the pistons with Wiseco's and never had them return. thank you have a nice day

you will most likely need to dremel the edges smooth(which means losing more material) THEN deburr and polish. remember detonation LOVES sharp edges and irregularities. But if your able to get them smooth and shaped nicely again i would use em! they appear to be not that bad.

No soft spot, just speaking some truth. Maybe you got your tune right finally after spending the money to buy a new set of pistons? Thanks, and you have a nice day as well

yay, cp arguing again
how about we say this... cp's work very well but have ZERO margin for error. wiseco's can take some abuse before they break

Nah my tune wasnt the problem, i know that for a fact. Like i said i am not the only person who has seen this issue.
Can you explain the engines that have come into my shop that i have fixxed for other people? Yet they are still going strong with wiseco's and these guys are home bread tuners who dont know **** other then setting the air fuel right.
Look im not anti cp or anything, i made my first comment as a joke but since you are so mature at handling things i will tell my findings with their product. I have also had some good success with some of their products in other applications. I think it was a mistake and maybe they have fixxed it by now but it is what it and they made a mistake. It happens. I have had other issues with some scion engines i have done where the piston was actually smaller then the stock ones when i recieved them, but it happens. We are humans and we make mistakes, it happens.
ohh yes i will have a nice day, it is beautiful out and im about lite up the bbq for some lunch.

The black visible portion of the coating is meant to wear off. The part of the coating that matters(the part that's bonded to the metal) isn't visible.
