Default My new exhaust setup - Comments please!

Alright guys, I'm about to drop about a grand into my car, so I'd like to get some comments before I spend it. I have a 99' H22 Prelude with a Greddy 18G turbo kit and stock exhaust. Here is what the exhaust shop quoted me:

2.5" Downpipe - $150
Flex Pipe - $100
Carsound cat - $179
2 O2 sensor bungs - $30
3" mandral bent catback w/ Magnaflow muffler - $357
Stainless Steel Tip - $60

Total = $876 + tax.

This is basicaly the setup I'm looking for. I will be getting a test pipe as well, but I will use the cat for daily driving. I just want to know if these prices sound right, compared to what you guys have paid for exhaust. And also, if this would be the best exhaust for my setup. Thanks!

Seems like a pretty good setup, I would get a Random technology cat.

We have experienced some problems with carsound

Is that including labor?

You can get the Carsound cat for way less...I paid $99 from ImportParts.com for my 3" Carsound Hi-Flow cat. I've seen them for less on ebay [brand new].

Talk to b18bturbo [viren] about the flex pipe...I got my 3" flex pipe from him for $40 shipped.

ATPturbo.com has the o2 bungs for $5 each, and they also have the block off bolt.

Yes, all the prices are including labor. I'm not sure how much it is for just the parts. But thanks for the info, I'm going to look into a couple cats on eBay.

Ya I was going to say those prices are way to high
I would get the parts yourself online first then go to the shop for labor. I bet you will save like 150$-200$

Yea I might end up doing that. This shop is the only place around here that has a mandral bender, so they charge quite a bit more.

For the price, you would save money buying all the parts and your own MIG setup.

I made my 2.5" downpipe for a total of $50, for two 180° bends (with leftover) and a pair of flanges. A cat should cost no more than $60. (I recommend CatCo if you need OBDII compliant) The sensor bosses are $2.50 a piece on Ebay. The Catback isn't a bad deal if it is stainless, otherwise you could do it for a third of the price. 3" flex pipe on Ebay is $26.00. That stainless steel tip is just a ripoff. I would either get a muffler that already has a good tip, or just get a bolt-on stainless tip from the auto parts store.

Then when you were finished you would still have the MIG, and the pride from having done it yourself!

Your going to want to watch boost spikes with full 3" on a stock GReddy kit. One nasty spike on your H22 and its going buh-bye.

Sounds like a nice set-up although you could do better on the prices and just have them install it all at the shop.

What problems would that be? Granted your using the right application they work great. And if you want a correctly working Hi flow converter, nothing beats a Car Sound.

P.S. I am not saying Random Tech is a bad product, but there are differences to their converters.

About using a 2.5-inch downpipe and the rest of the system 3-inch:
Is there a gain with 3-inch catback if one already have a tiny 2.5-inch DP? Is there any point in having the rest of the system 2.5-inch to keep up the exhaust gas velocity? Also, remember that the insanely hot exhaust coming out of the turbo takes up more space than later down the system when it's cooled down...

2.5" is tiny? Not.

Yes, there are benefits to larger exhaust in the cat back. As the exhaust gas cools it loses velocity. The only way to avoid backpressure is to continually expand the exhaust.

The only place around here is Stan's Mufflers and Headers in Auburn. I'll let you know how good they do on my exhaust.
